3rd Gen Oil filter Relocation Done
After getting sick and tired of removing skid plates, and oil filter locations that make you wish you had 2 extra sets of elbows, I finally installed an oil filter relocation kit.
The perfect spot for the remote filter mount was on the drivers side inner wheel well just below the battery. I took about 2 hrs to do which wasn't too bad for being in such a tight spot and with lining up and drilling the mounting holes for the remote filter mount, as well as, triple checking everything for possible problems like possible hose clearance or abrasion areas and leaks.
The new filter is a common one with at least twice the capacity as the OEM one.
I'll try and get my buds digicam and snap a few pics.

I just did a good highway run and all is okay...I did notice that the hoses and remote filter assembly get very hot so you may take that into consideration when looking for a place to mount it.

LOL! If you would have read the write up for a oil replacement in 4Runners you wouldn't need to do this. All you have to do is turn you wheels all the way to the left and go to the driver side tire. Pull back the flap and the oil filter is right there. Not to hard to take out. It takes about 10 min to change my oil now.

For me it is not reaching the filter but preventing the mess that ensues.
When the filter comes off it runs all over the block and skidplate....nasty mess.
I would love to relocate it so it drops down and reduces the mess.
I could probably get my oil change down to 10 min if I did this mod.

I did a relocation kit so I could get a little more oil capacity and use the same filter I use on all my other vehicles. Anyone who wants to look at it can see it here -

I mounted it under the battery on a bracket I made up. I didn't like the idea of it getting beat by rocks and road salt. It's not that big a job and all the parts are off the shelf from Summit Racing...

Yeah, I know! This just goes to show that I'm a man of my word even if it is a decade later Must be some kind of record though hey? What do I win?

I am curious what the distraction was. Hope Diamond discovery? Oil bubbling up in the backyard? Practicing polygamy?
Nice relocation, but at least spring for the Fram Ultra oil filter, which is a very nice one to use.
Did you do any pressure readings before and after the relocation?

Ha, Swede...I thought dang, old thread- but it's even better with a 10 year update. Thanks for getting around to it!

I really wanted to do this - bought parts, chickened out at the last minute. My hoses were long and I didn't have a safe place to tie them down.
Any chance of an updated pic or two? I'll check out your build thread - but really wondering how the install held up over the last 10 years (assuming it held up well...).
Also - first read I was thinking "borrow his friends digicam.... what the hell, who doesn't have a cell phone/cam these days?" - then I realized this thread is 10 years old...

I pulled it off about a year or two later after the body lift went in. It worked okay and never had a problem with it. I decided to go back to the OEM setup cause I never felt 100% confident that the relocation kit would hold up offroad and the simpler stock setup would be the safest way to go.
