Today was an interesting and productive day.....
New meats are on. Wow. That is a serious difference.
The rims have been a work in progress. I pulled all the bolt out of them, got them powder coated black, and then put all new stainless steel bolts in.
Tires are 33x12.50x15 Firestone Destination MT's.
Sadly.... 4.88's were NOT cutting it.... so I swapped out the thirds today with 5.29's.... and Detroit in the rear.
Expensive day...
Photos to come. I have them on the phone, so I will attempt another update in a few

The last shot of the 31's
Waiting for me to bring the runner in....
I wanted to take photos of it completed at the shop..... but I had to drive it... it was BEGGING for me to drive it.
No real rubbing, but I'm gonna do some trimming just in case
Just when I thought the day couldn't get more expensive..... my Optima Red Top decided to go out on me... So I finally upgraded to the Yellow Top

I'm getting a details sheet from the builder. Basically it is identical to the doa engine, but I'm into it for 1200, not 9k.

Thanks guys!
Space - I will be back in the Orange County area. We're house shopping in Dana Point.
4x4907 - I might sell them if I upgrade the other ride to 5.29's. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again! I'll let you take her for a spin if you're in town
85toy - Yeah, they're on the list. I think it's about 3rd on the list. Front and rear bumpers take priority. Anyone know someone that's good with CAD? I'm terrible, and need a plate bumper designed. I love the FatMouse guys' bumpers, but shipping would be insane from spain.

Exhaust was done today. Flowmaster Super 44 tucked WAY high, new cat, all exhaust routed way up so it won't catch on anything. I'll post some photos tomorrow. It's dark and cold.
Also relocated my front and rear diff breathers. Mine were solidified in dirt.
Oh yeah, I'll be doing the R150F swap. I'm sick of this A340H. Gotta find one at a yard and then have it rebuilt.

Wow, long weekend.
Completed oil change #2. 600 miles on the engine so far. Oil change showing less of the assembly lube than the first (my oil doesn't look like really runny J.B weld.)
Changed the tranny fluid. All good so far.
Took a nice long 200 mile drive to go for some incredible snowshoeing. Here are my notes from the drive...
Filled up in Anchorage - 91 Octane
Oil level appears good. Oil pressure within range. Temp appears normal.
On the drive, 40kt headwind along the palmer flats. Truck feels gutless. Foot to the floor, unable to hold 60mph. ECT off, OD on.
OD off - able to hold 60, but not well.
ECT on - able to hold 60, still struggles.
Out of the wind. Truck still gutless on hills but otherwise able to hold 70mph.
Arrived at Destination, no real problems.
On route home. Had to stop for gas in Wasilla. 161 miles to the tank. Roughly 9mpg. Ouch. Got annoyed. Broke out the timing light and my "SST"
Timing at 3^ BTDC..... hmmmm
Advanced timing to 12^ BTDC
Wind has died down. Truck pulls through the hills, no lack of power. Never had to fiddle with ECT or OD. Foot on the floor in a hill added even more power. Truck climbs above 75mph with no problems.
Appears to run *much* better.
Gearing is terrible. RPM's are WAY too high at speed.
Made it home with 3/4's tank left. Appears to have much better mpg.
THE VERDICT
The 5.29's are out. 4.88's are back in.
A340H appears to be just fine for my application and I plan on keeping it now until it fails. Then I'll swap in the R150F.
I will be advancing timing a bit more, to see where the limits are. I only run 91 octane, I notice no pinging.
