I got the truck just about on the road all i need now is a front bumper. I took it for its first drive last night and im VERRY happy with it, all the gauges that i installed work perfectly and the radiator works awesome, I forgot to turn on the e-fan for the first fifteen minutes and it didnt go above 190* with the fan on it dropped to about 175* to 190*. Its been running about 9 lbs of boost wide open. Im going to post up some vids of the exhaust and driving tonight.

Nice work, that runner is sick! Hopefully I'll see you around town, I work in Norwich (landscaping) and I'm in WRJ a lot.

I know about the time /money thing, it took me 3 years to fully take apart 2 trucks and build 1 good one! It's still a work in progress but that's half the fun.

What make diesel? I dont know much about toyota diesels. I dont really know much about diesels at all and im learning every day. but i do know that you need good compression or nothing else matters. I would pull the injectors check compression and replace the injectors or just the nozzles

in '81, toyota was using a 2.2 liter diesel in the pick ups, referred to as a type L. It produced 62 HP @ 4200 RPM and 93 ft/lbs of torque.
This was the first in the L series motors. The L series motor was the first toyota diesel design to use a rubber timing belt.
after '83, they increased the displacement to 2.4L, referred to as a 2L, and also had a turbo version, the 2L-t
the 2L-T had 93HP @ 4000rpm and 159 ft/lbs of torque

Over the past week or so I have been taking the runner out for short trips to the store or dog park without problems. Last night I took it from wilder, VT to York, ME about 130 miles through the mountains. I couldn't be happier with the swap. It runs at about 190* climbs higher when I'm hammering on it going up hill it will go up to about 200-210 then back down when I'm coasting. it will build up to 10 psi full out and will cruse at 7 psi on the flats. I think i need to find a support group for turbo a holics but i think it might be too late for me im just a turbo junkie

Door pins

So ED and I decided to take the doors off and mod the hinges to make it quicker to take the doors off. It took about 20 minutes to grind the pin heads off and punch out the pins then we just used 5/16 bolts so now we only have to take out the 4 bolts instead of 8 bolts. I went to a Honda dealer with a friend to get his wheel bearings for his foreman and i found a pair of mirrors for $22 that had metric threads. So on top of the 5/16 bolts we welded a spare nut that came off the rear end (one of the 4 nuts that hold in the rear axle shaft, 14mm) and cut down a brass pipe as a spacer. I'm really happy with the way it came out.

Well it’s been a few months now and about 6k miles. I don’t have any pics yet but will post them up soon, here is what I have don’t since the last time i posted. 1. Notched the oil pan to clear the drag link. 2. Plumbed in the maroon vac switch from a 22re to shut off the motor. 3. had the motor flushed and put new coolant in (was running water till i had the leaks under control) 4. put the shift boots back in. 5. Made a center console out of an ammo can came out awesome. This past weekend i took it out for the first trail run and it did awesome even just running the 33 10.5s. at idle in low gear it has ok torque but it doesn’t take much throttle to get all the torque i need only spooled the turbo twice the whole trip. We wheeled all day about 7 hours and i only used 1/8 tank running B20. I seem to get better mileage off the B20 then straight diesel, I’m currently getting 22 mixed or 26 all hwy and i can even tell you how exciting it is to not only go up hill in 5th gear but accelerate just a little

Great build Ridda! I've contacted you through email about the wiring. I was hoping you'd be able to help a fellow om617 owner. I've pulled the block out of the mercedes. However this punk is loaded with Vacuum lines. I was hoping you might be willing to show in more detail what is needed and what isn't needed with pictures? if you could do that, I would be really grateful. Maybe a few shots of your motor mounts? -Josh

I will try to get shots of the motor mounts and the vac lines. I tool the brake booster line that went over the top of the motor, hooked to the 22re plenum and just connected it to the vac pump hard line, then cut a T for the vac shut off. will try to get pics later
