Northbridgeit 1989 4runner restoration and buildup

Hello everyone. I have a 1989 4runner sr5 auto v6 project started. I aquired her about a week ago....traded two computers I had gathering dust in my garage for her. It was at a dealer friends used car lot. I have an 87 FS Bronco project going but became frustrated with it's intermittent cutting off problem and needed a truck to get me by while I was troubleshooting her. Now, because I like this 4runner so much, I'm devoting time and effort in to restoration and build up for her. Have to say RBX buildup thread https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...thread-221587/ is my inspiration. Here's a frost covered pic of her

More info this weekend....

Welcome to Yotatech. I am into the restore and rebuilds. Just got done doing an 88, if you can ever say they are done. You will probably really enjoy this truck. Great looking truck.

Thanks guys. Here's a few pictures:

This is the worst side. Creases here and there and a little rust above fenders (both sides). Good thing is no rust on the frame.

This is the front: Needs new bumper and I'm not sure how the fix the crossmember (if thats what it's called). Guess that's why it had a new radiator!

More pics coming...I have to pull them into photoshop and reduce the size or they are huge when displayed on the forum.

Engine runs great...really. The back seat area is very clean and I don't believe the rear seats have been sat on very much at all....they are perfect. Front is another story. From the look of the rear carpet, I think PO kept rears folded down all of the time.

I got home a little early today and mounted the radio in the dash....PO just had it laying there. Looks brand new...Pioneer with bluetooth.

Hey RB....I ordered Master window switches for an 89....and they sent me Gen2. Any way to convert to Gen1? Gen2 has rear passenger windows switches as well...wonder if one could be used for tailgate window? Plug is similar but naturally larger. My plug will attach though....just has additional pins on either side. I'm not that great on electrical. Note the temporary toggles I put in to replace PO's electrical plug solution:

Any advice for replacing a whole new front end, radiator and steering on a 1990 4runner. She hit a guardrail and the engine is still fine but the whole front half got smashed in.

Northbridgeit,
Sorry i never responded, i didn't see your question before.

Window switches... Not sure, you'll need to get a wire diagram for the 89 and compare it to the 2nd gen wire schematic to see if the wires are the same. The 2nd gen rear window switch is wired differently if i recall. I believe it is wired into the window lock switch, and the 1st gen is not.

zconkk,
Front End Damage....Find a local junk yard/pick'n'pull. Get a pad and a pen and look at your damage...start making a list. Take that list to the yard.
I have no idea how bad your front end damage is....core support tweaked, hood misaligned? frame ends affected?

Coat/paint all exposed metal after straightening any metal.
Use a tape measure to make sure the fenders are square to the hood(measure diagonally as you would if you were checking a square for being racked). like this:
http://www.precisioncarrestoration.c...andcruiser-11/

You can straighten a bunch of metal with a tree and a come-along.
