jd20phill's 1988 4runner Build
Hey guys, I just recently finished a 3.4 swap on my 1988 runner, and instead of cluttering up the 3.4 swap section with pics, I figured its time to start a build up thread. Any comments or criticisms are welcome.
Here it is the day I found it on craigslist. It was kind of dirty, had a crappy paint job, and the interior was toast.
and another
Pretty sweet interior
and another. Minus the paintjob, the interior, and the knocking 3.slow, it was in pretty good shape. No a bit of rust on the body or frame and a single dent below the rear tail lamp.
$450.00 later, it was home. Even with 287000 miles and a knocking engine, it started right up and drove into the garage. Gotta love those toyota's!

Time for some interior clean up.
Stripped the interior to clean it up
Found my car's previous owner. Found this guy tucked into the rear seats. Found another nest under the windshield cowl and another in the side panel. I wore thick gloves when taking anything off this truck after this guy was found!
cleaned up the door panels
painted the rear panels
retrofitted the panel from a 1990 4runner to cover the tailgate
and put in a center console from the same 4runner. It fit with no modifications!
switches too!
and fabbed up some temp. shift boots until I can get a real one.

Now the fun begins!
Last time this 3.0 ever ran
and she's out! This was the easiest part of the swap.
I'm going to skip most of the 3.4 swap part, as it has been covered to death over in the 3.4 swap section.
engine's in, buttoned up, and.... it runs! With the first turn of the key too.
Still needs an exhaust, but its basically done.

And here she sits now. Picked up a soft top and 1 in. body lift from the Wabbit. I got both installed in a few hours and proceeded to put the hood back on. Looks like a truck again!
Took my fiance' and Labrador Ringo to the lake today on its first voyage that wasn't around the block. The truck ran great! I couldn't be happier with it.
Plans for near future:
Exhaust - Going in tomorrow to get a cat and glasspack installed. Before I get bashed for the glasspack 1) It was dirt cheap and 2) It can;t be any louder than it is now, lol
Paint job - most likely red, but we will see
Wheels - Planning on getting some km2's in either 31x10.5. I'm not quite sold on the rims that are on it, so they might change as well (got them for a killer deal, and seeing as I had two flats, I couldn't pass them up).
Sliders and Bumpers - can't decide between plate or tube
Carpet
Plans for not so near future
Supercharger
and...
this combined with...
this with 4.7 gears in it. Might do a dual set up, but only time will tell. Guy wanted 200 bucks for both, so I sacrificed some garage space and there they sit.
