Drewski's slow "build"
I call this a "build" but I'm not sure it qualifies, I'm more along the lines of "restore" at this point. I bought my '94 DLX in October 2011, did the headgasket/timing chain a month or two later and I've been driving it since.
This will be a good place to dump my pics and keep track of what I'm doing. You guys can tell me when I do something stupid (if you feel like it!).
Here's the latest bit of work I've done to it:
I pulled the bed off a few weeks ago. I was trying to figure out if my fuel pump had died, turned out to be a loose ground. Good thing I got into all this though since I really needed to do some rust repair.
New fuel pump/bracket:
The pump was nice and cheap from toyotapart.com
Here are some nice pics of about $50 worth of POR-15!
No-cut ZUK mod:
FYI those are Black Magic 100# springs, 5"x11" I believe. Took it for a spin around the block last night and it's pretty cool. Little jumpy round the turns but I'm running a little light w/o the bed right now.

Thanks for checking it out everyone! Here I am passing emissions about 30 min ago...
J&H, I POR-15'd the underside of the bed, next is weld in a couple patches where the rust got too bad and then I'm rolling on a Monstaliner. 3" or 4" bushwackers after that. Really long term may just be wooden flatbed though, if I keep it that long.
EDIT: thought you said truck BED! As far as the truck I dunno, drive the crap out of it!

Question for ya. How do you like the Por-15? how easy was it to use and where did you get it from? i think i need to do the same thing. gotta love the midwest rust belt

POR15 is one of the best products I think I've ever used! All I did to prep was hit my frame with a wire wheel on my elec drill and then I painted it on with 2" throw-away chip brushes. You can literally beat the frame with a hammer and the paint won't chip. It's not cheap, I paid about $50/qt but I will always do that on rusted frames. I'm fixing up and old Honda CB550 right now and I use that paint on all sorts of parts on it.
Oh, and I got mine at Van Senus. Try any specialty auto parts store or racing oriented shop, they should have it.

Would por15 work for rust around windshield Area ? Never used it but heard great things. I need to pull my windshield out and fix some pretty ruff rust spots soon.
I like the coil springs in rear. I was thinking of going that route but couldnt find enough info to make me go for it.

So here's where all my wrenching has been going lately:
Brought that home a few weeks back not running. Runs pretty good now after cleaning the points. I'm redoing the clutch now.
But there's more:
That's my first car. It's been sitting at my dad's for the past 10+ years. I think I'll tow it home Saturday with the yota and start getting it road worthy again. I'm just gonna see how little I need to do to get it going again. I would love to do a manual trans swap and put a carb'd I6 in it but for now it'll run the 5.slow and the auto, rust, rot and all! My wife is so happy...
The yota will never be done but right now that and my 1100 are the reliable forms of transportation, it's probably better to let those stay running for now

Hey bone! No updates, just chased down a little grounding issue on her but I really haven't been driving much lately. I spend all my time on a motorcycle but the Yota still makes me grin!
I have been thinking of selling so that I can search for a 2wd '95-'97 Tacoma w/ the 2.7. A buddy of mine has one and raves about the improved power and mpgs. I also like the idea of something a bit lower to haul motorcycles and dirt bikes in. We'll see, I love my 22RE and every time I drive it I wanna keep it forever!

Thinking 2wd for mpgs and lower loading deck. I pretty much use this for hauling bikes so 4wd is entirely unnecessary! It is tons of fun though, I don't know. I just ran an aux ground from my fuel pump that I hope will rectify some funk that has been happening lately. That truck is just too much fun
