Cavemankiller12's 1987 4runner build

Hey. Sorta new to this place and I'm finally getting around to starting this build thread. I have got alot of help on here (you probably don't know) so thank you all!

Here I go! Okay so I have alot to put up and it is going to take time. I just had knee surgery so figured I would have time to get this thread going!

The 4runner was bought in January/ February of 2011. Can't really remember. I bought for the 22re manual transmission and of course the awesome removable top. When I bought The 4runner i did not fully understand the potentional it had off roading/ 4wheeling. I bought it running but needing to have the power steering pump replace.

It made that awful grinding sound and was terrible hand to turn. This took a weekend to replace. I will find these pictures and hopfully have them up here soon.
Thanks for reading and again I will up date as fast as I can. Thanks everybody!

Alright cool! thanks B-yodaful and rustedyota for the help. thank you RMP for the complement. I plan on wheeling it if you read above but also using as a daily driver. Ill get more to that as I post more and more. as of now I have done alot of work on the interior and not to much on the exterior. I do have many questions coming up so I hope I can get as much as possible in the way of replies. thanks for looking and the help.

That's what we are all here for, I started my 97 pickup build before I found this site, It help me out greatly, the guy and girls here have a lot of information. Why re-invent the wheel as they say....good luck and it's important that you have fun..............Bill

The front of the 4runner

The rear

so as you can see from these pictures it is gonna be fun.
a few things on list fix the tail gate. the rear window didnt go all the way up and it didnt seem to stop. so fix the rear window. also I dont know about you but the tinting kinda sucks.so get rid of that. the front skid plat or a front skid plate might be nice. anyways as I go I will put together a better list.

So next ran into a problem of blowing fuses and had a blown alternator. So fixed one problem but took the whole dash apart. look!

With the dash apart I decided to replace the crappy put together stereo in it and some nicish speakers.

so I took the dash apart to try and find a short. or at least where a wire ran. i ended up not finding the short but we isolated the area with another fuse in the system but it hasnt blown yet. so we just sit and wait and hopefully it blows again so I can find were the problem is at. anyways next I decided to fix a few things while the dash was apart. the blower wheel for the heater was destroyed. picked one up at pick n pull. I also want to fix the terribly crappy set up for the stereo wires and wanted to put a newer stereo in. so pick this one out got the appriopate brackets and bang:

okay well I get the other pictures asap! just got to get the computer work! haha but there is one.

So here is the stereo basicly in and the 4 inch speakers.
Heres the radio in.

Heres the speakers

While doing the radio and speakers I decide what the hell I don’t like the interior, so ill hip it apart. Also was missing the roll bar and upper seat release mounts on the seats. I end up making a run to pick n pull to get this stuff but found some nice seats at pick n pull and used them. heres the pick n pull pill!
One

And the other

Also picked up a tailgate

Next I got to hipping the old stuff out.
A few before (Kinda Bad. All I got though.)

As I pulled everything out
Rear Seats out

Panels and most of the carpet out

Everything out

I decided to make some panels finished wood in the front and aluminum paneling in the back where I mounted the old sony 6x9’s in the metal. So after a hassle from my parents to get the seats so that I could haul my siblings around, this is were I got to! Then got the Finished passenger panels, roll bar, and the new seats mounted!
Finished panels

The shine of the finish

Finished panels in

Here is a picture of the passenger seats and the back wood panels.

Next I got the front passenger and driver side panels. So what I want to do here is put in like map pockets at the base or something like that and also be able to mount like a flashlight and possibly a first aid kit.
So here is before ( what I was trying to fix.

Mock up

Final

I also go the tail gate fixed.

This is about the time that I realized I had a Automatic 4runner that was converted at one point to a Manual. Looked up the vin and it side it rolled off the assembly line as a DLX. Anyways next thing I found out was that the front hand been bashed in…. I decided to keep it because I figured I would beat it up anyways. I was also looking into trying at one point to maybe try straightening it.
After that I final got fed up with listening to just the front speakers. So decided to put the 6x9’s in and finish up the freaking project. With that I got these together. I am looking for like a car cigerette lighter/ light to be able to use as the back light. But still haven’t found a way to do that. I also want to put a nice little cargo box on both sides.
Here are the final panels that I will add stuff to.

One of the speaker in the panel

And the final with everything back together

Haha so in doing this interior rebuild of the panels it took me a full year plus some but it is back together.
I also wanted to put a proper carpet in but could not find any. What I decide was that I want to get like a rubber or plastic fitted for a 4runner mat set for the passenger area.
So that is where I am at. I have a list of things I want to do.
1. Old man emu 2 inch lift or a lift
2. Slidders?
3. Front and rear bumper
4. Soft top or a top like that.
5. Skid plate in the front.
6. Okay theres more but I cannot think right now
7. New tires
This the 4runner now. I’m sure I’m forgetting things hopefully I can get that stuff up. If there is any pictures that anyone would like to see let me know and I will see what I can do. Thanks for looking Ill try and also get the pictures up of wheeling I got to get a lot of them from friends. Thanks everyone and if you have any ideas let me know!! Thank you!!
