Picked up a Carb kit today from Orielly's. Plan on rebuilding the stock carb
tomorrow. I have a gallon of carb dip from rebuilding my 73 rd350 carbs
last fall so Im good to go. Should be fun and Ill take alot of pictures as I go
so they may help someone.
Gonna hit the local yard tomorrow for fun tomorrow with a freind...been a long time since I went so...no idea whats there.
I wont lie..every time I open the door and see those rusty flor pans its very
discouraging, but I owe it to the trekker to do her right. I keep telling myself Im in no hurry.

Nice project!
If it was my truck I would find a 86-95 truck or 4runner with a 22re and w56 with all the more modern drive train and swap it in. Ifs trucks are still easier to find in good shape. Buy going to a 22re it will make driving it soo much bettter and i think it would be worth more than the stock 22r cause carbs suck lol. No one will ever know unless you open the hood. I would keep everything else stock or close to it or use peroid correct aftermarket parts. I'm glad to see old yotas are getting the restored.

I have a brilliant idea TS. Keep the truck looking the same on the outside as it does now, but fix all the problems with it inside and frame, drivetrain, etc.
At least keep it the same blue it is now.

The thought crossed my mind to let it have a vintage Yota look.
Be back on it a little bit here. I mentioned going to the junkyard today right?
Major major scores.
AS WE ARE AT YARD..... a 1979 medium blue 2wd rolled in. Unbelievable.
I gots me some goodies. Pics soon.

So....
I got the carb rebuilt. Really smoothed her out. It idling high...so I have a gremlin to work out, but its not a bad gremlin. Pretty happy she runs.
I took that dang carb completely apart. Drilled out the choke rivets...took the choke breaker apart. I used everything from the carb kit I could.
I wont lie. Most ridiculous carb I have ever rebuilt. Makes a Holley look like a puppy and a Quadrajet look like a kitty. I see why people get Webers. Jeez.
No more clouds of life choking black smoke filling the garage. I can kep my eyes open while its running without the gas fumes burning my retinas.
Not sure where to go with the high idling. Think the choke is sticking open.
Maybe I got a return spring on wrong on the choke. Oh well Im done in the garage for the night.
I suppose I have to wait and get the input shaft bearing in the 87 done before I tear this truck down too much. Maybe when I get a frame and lower cab section I will start the real work. Least she can make it in and out of the garage.
There was alot of crap in the carb...but no congealed fuel. Mostly mouse debris believe it or not.
Next mission is to start soaking cab and bed mounts and seeing wtf thats all about.
Imma read some threads now...lol.

The glass is definatley real glass. No doubt original.
I even think the taillight on that side looks crooked.
Its as if the bedside has spread....I really hope it is an alignment thing.
I was looking at trevvor the trekkets build and from a rear shot of his trekker...it appeared to have maybe a 3/5 to 1/2 reveal around the window...
I have a 1 1/2 on one side. Even the fiberglass hatch portion.
Lemme brave the cold for one more picture...lol

Looking awesome! Jealous! Well, not jealous of your rust... I thought my Trekker was bad... I love that blue though, it was my other choice besides white and black.
You rub grease into your wounds to stop the bleeding? That can give you blood poisoning and possibly cancer, but hey, what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger!
If you ever get rid of it, make sure you sell it to someone who knows what it is! Looking like you're falling in love with it like we all do though...
