Insert pressed into lug hole in rim?
I have a pair of AR rims i believe and today i just had a near death experience with them... i was driving down the road going 40 when all of a sudden i saw something cling off to the side of the road. I thought nothing of it, then in a few more feet another one and another one!! I quickly realized that these were lug nuts and i pulled off to the side of the road, but not before another one fell off. I parked and saw that i only had two lug nuts still on. I called a buddy and had h im bring a jack and stands so that i could put them back on, thinking that i just didnt torque them down enough.
Unfortunatly i found that the holes in the rim were now much much too large for my lug nuts to hold them in place. At this point i am really freaking out (Untill i remember that i have a spare on my tire carrier )
When i get home safe and sound, i take a closer look at my rims. It seems that the two lugs that stayed in tact have an insert pressed into the inner lug hole that sets the right diameter. However, 4 of the 6 inserts all came out at one time. Are these inserts stock? Or where they an after marked addition? Can i have new ones pressed in or is it unsafe?
These are the holes with the inserts still:
This is what the holes look like without the insert:
