All Terrains vs. Mud Terrains, which to get?
I'm looking to get new larger tires for a 94 pickup and wondering if anyone can give some feedback on what has worked for them the best. I recently put in a 3" body lift so i've been dying to get bigger tires.
I'm looking for something that will wear decent on the road because I do alot of road driving but I also want to be able to take it on the trails a little also, but nothing major.
I'm having a dilema between the BFG All Terrain 33 12.5s or the 33 10.5s or the Mastercraft Courser M/T 33 12.5s.
I'm currently running 30 9.5 BFG All Terrains and i've noticed my truck hydroplaneing sometimes and they are not the greatest in the snow. I'm worried that the Mastercraft Courser M/Ts will be even worse in the snow and wear worse.
ANY feedback on what has worked well for you or what has not worked would be greatly appriciated!

Ive heard great things about the goodyear mtrs. I see alot of them on the trails and know people that run them on thier dd and get 40,000 out of them

Yeah, i've had friends with the BFG m/ts and they loved them but the Mastercrafts seem a little cheaper.. maybe i'm just being too cheap lol.

Dude, you must be driving weird....I found that my 31x10.5 BFG a/ts were BETTER in the snow and on the ice than my old (okay new, but not using them) specifically made ice/snow tires with studs! I hydroplane no matter what the type of tire I roll with when I'm on the highway...the key is to slow down when its raining
Anyways. I would suggest A/Ts because, like you said, you drive a lot on the road and don't do hardcore offroading. You should go with the 10.5" wide because they are easier on steering components than 12.5". Just my thoughts

BFG AT's are great in the snow in my experience.
They are OK offroad - nothing to get too excited about for good or bad.
AT's will last A LOT longer with road driving than MT's will.
AT's are considerably cheaper than the new MT KM2.
3" BL you could fit 33x12.50 which is more available. Gas mileage and steernig component life will be better eith the 10.50's ... and you could take off the body lift and still fit them ...

Like some posted depends on what you want to do. I love the Firestone Destination M/T. I like the large lugs, heavy side walls, wrap around tread coming down the side wall. The performance is what what gets me, worth the decrease in gas mileage and the treadlife seems to be desent for a M/T. But I wheel trails in the Wa mountains, rocks, roots, mud, snow, steep inclines/declines. The 12.5 gives a wiser track and with the backspacing on my rims give a wider stance so a benefit in off chaber situations. These are the things I factored in when looking at tires. Oh I found a heck of a deal on line. These 33" let me go with the same effect as my buddy rolling 37" boggers of course clearance isn't the same but lets stay or tire sellection. I also wanted a good preformer that wasn't the lastest trendy brand, that falls into personal perference. Some would say my wheeling is hardcore others would deem it novice.

and I wont be doing any hardcore wheeling I just want to be able to be out in the woods and get over some of the rocks and few mud spots. Trails around here arent too too bad that il be going on anyways.
Ive been looking on craigslist but i think i would just like to buy new because i want to make it a good investment. Thank you all so far for the feedback, it's helping alot!

mud tires suck in the snow but are way better offorad and look cooler..
i have bfg a/ts and i would use them offroad.. too much mud around here..
but they are hands down my favorite year round street tire.. ride amazing!
get new if you going to be keeping the truck for a while.. much safer and have a warrenty!
wait till they go on sale if you can... like buy 3 get one free

Buy used if a good price will let you sample with out going whole hog on something that does or doesn't work the "best" for you needs.
Lots roll on BFG A/Ts others M/T's; some SS tsl, thornterds, ssr, irok, boggers; mtr; cooper sst; maxxis buckshot, big horn; pro comp a/ts and m/ts. This list can go on and on, Research only you know what kinda wheelin you'll do.
http://ssl.delti.com/cgi-bin/rshop.p...e=10&weiter=10 is where I found a great deal on my tires but that was over 1.5 years. Even with shipping it was cheaper that a tire store. Might want to think about a rim tire package as sometimes its cheaper that way. Too narrow of rim can hurt treadlife.

If it was me I would get 31's, or in your case because of the lift 32's, if you 33's you would want to regear otherwise its going to be real slow and your gas mileage is going to take a dump. Get the BFG All-Terrains they wear well and ride well, the MT's ride not so good (awsome offoadin tires though) all in all my suggestion would be 32x11.5x15 BFG All terrains.

Getting them off websites is fine, if you go to a site that retreads it will usually tell you that.

As for regearing: when I got my truck it had 33's with stock gears. It could push them but wasn't the prettiest site. As for gas mileage drop. Well it sure didn't help but its hard to say how much becuase the tripometer is connected to the speedometer. The speedometer gets its "speed" from the transfer case not from how fast wheels a turning nor how many tire revolution equal a mile. So the way I figure my mileage gives skewed data, if that makes sense.
If you order on line go with reputible site just like tire stores.
So kinda sucks for you if you are limited on cash just put 3" of body lift and want to do the set up correctly. 31" will look small and 33" will be slow and kinda suck. So function or fashion? Your choice.
