I recently bought a factory correct 4runner with chrome steel wheels and warm hubs. I went to throw some 15 factory alloys from an 87 pickup and the hub bore was too small. I cant seem to find any threads about different factory hub bore. I really wanted to use these allows. Pics for clicks.
If it has Warn hubs, it is not factory correct.
Aisin hubs were the factory build.
That being said, I am running Warn hubs and 1st gen 4Runner alloys on my '87 4Runner.
I don't know why those alloy rims will not fit. They should. The fit is very tight and even a little corrosion can be problematic.
As a point of fact, the alloy wheel you show is a second gen alloy wheel, found on 1989 to 1995 models.
An irrelevant point though because both the 1st gen and 2nd gen SR5 alloy wheels have the same bore diameter.
The difference being an 15mm offset versus an 8mm offset and different center caps that will not interchange between the two different vintage wheels.
Weird. The alloys are at least 1/8 to small. I have several sets as well as a set of gamblers and they are all the same bore but too small to fit the warns. I have seen very low mile factory showroom 4Runners with the warm hubs. I wonder if they were a factory option/upgrade. This truck also has a factory rear seat delete.
Many 1987 Runners came from the factory with Aisin "Automatic" hubs that were fussy and difficult to reassemble when taken apart.
In the US, it was cheaper and easier to source Warn hubs to replace them.
Just about all early 'Runners were shipped from Japan with no rear seat in order to avoid certain tariffs that had been levied, supposedly to protect American car makers from 'unfair' competition.
Rear seats were installed in the States after the machines had cleared customs. Some were sold, never having any rear seats installed.
I know of at least three variations of 1st gen 4Runner rear seats.
Many pickups were imported as cab and chassis with American made beds installed later, for the same reason.
