3rd Gen wheels on 2nd Gen 4runner???

Hi all!

I'd like to get some bigger tires on my 2nd Gen, but I also want to keep my stock tires & rims for road trips and such...

I have an option to buy some 3rd gen wheels (off a 97 toyo) and I'd like to put some BFG KM2 32x11.5x15 on them.

Q -Are 11.5's too wide for those rims?

Q - Is the backspacing different on 2nd and 3rd gen stock wheels? will I have rubbing issues with those tires?

Thanks in advance

This is a very common swap, putting 97 rims on earlier trucks.

Keep in mind MOST 3rd gens came with 16" wheels, so you better check before buying. They will not rub if you have a lift, however if you are stock they will most likely rub.

Btw, all these questions have been answered in many threads, next time you might want to search so your question will be answered sooner.

Thanks for your reply Coug... and thanks for going easy on me. Did a search and it came up with so many results, and never really found a solid answer about the backspacing and rubbing.

So I shouldnt be worried about the 11" wide on stock tires eh?

I run 10.5" wide tires on my DD, and 33x12.5x15 tires on my crawler, with no rubbing.

It won't rub unless you are turning sharp, assuming you don't have a lift. With a lift, you won't have any problems.
