Supercharged GM 3800 into a 86 pickup
Ive had this spare supercharged L67 gm motor for 3 years now. Its got 160,000 miles on it but ran perfect when taken out. I want alittle advice on this swap.
So ive been reading about 4.3 swaps etc on here and thats what got me wondering if anyone can help me with a few questions i have..
One, Im assuming since bell housing adapters are made for that motor swap may be available for my 3.8 to bolt up too. anyone can point me in a direction a good site or company that makes these bell housings?
two, what would be a good choice for a transmission (5-speed manual preferably) and would it bolt up to the stock drivetrain (tranfercase and axles)
three, does anyone know or remember anyone doing this swap??? you guys have a forum just for this stuff, which is pretty cool to me

Well for starters the 3800 is a fwd motor. It doesnt lend itself well to a rear drive setup. Two I dont know of anyone that makes a bell housing adapter for it. You can check with advance adapters. The other problem is that if you use a stick you will need to find a flywheel that will bolt to the motor and work with a clutch. Not to mention headers, motor mounts, oil pan. Its not that it couldnt be done. Anything is possible but for what you would spend on doing the swap you would be way better off with the 4.3 or even a V8 swap.

these motors came in the firebird/camaros as RWD. im thinking i can get the motor mounts from a Camaro and weld supports on the toyota frame. I can also use the clutch and flywheel from that car. I will look into the advance adapters and find out what they say about transmission choices and bellhousings.
Would the stock tranfercase/axles be able to withstand 300 hp and about 300-350 ft/trq?
If i can do this motor swap i would much rather it than a 4.3 or v8. It would get very decent gas mileage and easily have 300 hp. you would need to do serious work to a 350 or a 5.0 or 4.3 to pull those numbers. pulley swap, cam and a nice set of headers and a tune would easily net 300+

the transfer case will take it.. but your w56 will need to be swapped to a r151 from a turbo truck or supra if you like the GO pedal..iirc they can take something like 800 hp.. and a definite axle rebuild will need to be applied.. cromo shafts,spool and other lil goodies..

Say's that the tranny bolts are wrong and intake is on the wrong side, you can work with the intake thing but the tranny bolts would be an issue. I guess the 2.8 trannies will work but but, good luck finding an adapter to make your transfer case work, and which transfer do you have the 21 or 23 spline?
It could definately work as the rear end will hold up due to the way the torque hits on those cars.....
I had a GTP back in the day that i put deep into the 12's on an IFS setup with no money in the suspension.
i'm doing a 95 cobra swap and gathering parts right now.
You can do it but you'll need ot be resourceful, also states that the Gen 2 and Gen 3's might have the correct tranny bolts, which gen is yours?

He's right. Its not an ordinary 3.8 Buick. Nobody makes a bellhousing adapter.

Engine, 97 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP 3800 Series II Supercharged, stock internals, ported blower, 1" ZZP intercooler coming soon, 72 mm ported stock throttle body, deleted factory MAF sensor port, LS1 MAF, 3.4" blower pulley, custom 1 5/8" headers dumping to a single 3" pipe with high flow cat.
ECM, Same
Wiring Harness, modified 93 4 runner Harness (Mine had an accident when a previous owner tried to "fix" the air conditioning by putting a 30 amp fuse in a 15 amp hole.) New harness is from an SR5, so now it is wired for cruise and power windows, mirrors, and door locks.
Bellhousing, 99 Dodge Dakota 2.5 5 spd, 2wd (Has the correct bell pattern and used the same trans as yota.) with a new starter notch cut out on the drivers side.
Clutch, jeep plate, camaro flywheel and pressure plate.
Trans, Stock yota with a jeep ax15 input shaft, dakota front bearing retainer and flywheel.
The rest of the running gear is stock. (For now.)
Working on the oil pan today (Enlarged and modified to clear the differential.) then finishing up the wiring.
