Dang it man will you stop giving me ideas about forced induction. I'm trying to stick to a budget! Now I'm daydreaming about how to build an intake manifold - or contemplating building some turbo headers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZzYsObXm-4

You need to come down to the sandbox here (Oceano Dunes) sometime this spring/summer to play. Better come on down before the environmentalists shut it down.

Power steering pipe connection

Hi

I bought the 1UZ-FE a few weeks back and i'm like almost done with it , just have 1 problem tho. From what i can make out is i see 4 lines for the power steering . 2 high pressure and 2 low pressure. 1 high pressure is at the pump where the filler bottle is and 1 low pressure coming out or going into the filler bottle. 1 high pressure beside the AC and just below that another low pressure going to i don't know where.

Can someone plz direct me in the right direction of what pipes go where and how to fit them. I bought the motor alone and all the pipes was disconected.

Thanks in advance for the help.

It depends on whether your engine came from an SC400 or an LS400. The SC's have a remote fluid reservoir and the the LS's have the reservoir build right onto the pump. Then they both have a power steering cooler in the system somewhere.

If you pump is the LS version then all you need is the two lines going from the pump to the steering box (one high pressure and one low pressure). The hoses from an early model v6 truck/4runner without the steering assist option work perfect. IF you have the SC pump then there two additionl low pressure lines feeding the reservoir.

Power steering pipe connection

Thanks for the reply

I'm going to put up a pic for you to see

i'm really confused here. In the 1st pic you see the power steering pump and filler bottle, left side of filler bottle a little on the side ( 1 ) .On the bottom of the filler bottle the 1st high pressure pipe ( 2 ) . On the bottom a little below that 2 smaller pipes almost touching the radiator, that's the gearbox fluid cooling pipes going to the cooler.

The 2nd pic ( 4 ) is a pipe low pressure i presume and ( 5 ) high pressure. Those 2 is what i'm not sure of what it is.Thought it was for the power steering cuz when i blow air through it ( 4 ) oil comes out from the other one ( 5 )

U need the high an low pressure lines off of a 88 to 98 v6 4runner or pickup. Or if u can find a 90 to 95 runner pickup v6 that dose not have abs. The newer trucks use the power steering to run the ads. The late 80's v6 truck lines bolt right in. An from ur picture I can't tell what year ur truck is. If it has abs u have to remove it and remake the brake lines like I did.

That's prolly the most important question of all.

It's 1983 Mercedes-Benz 2.4 diesel so it's not a truck but a sedan.

Ur gonna have to have custom lines made then. I thought it was going into a Toyota. Don't know or care to know much about euro trash. Sorry man I just hate cars from Europe. Good luck though.

If your donor engine is from an SC400 it will also have hydraulic lines for the cooling fan going to the front of the engine that you can't use anymore. You need to replace this pump with a fan idler bracket and pulley from an LS400 or Tundra 2uz engine.

Out of the 3 donors, for a solid axle (84), would model be best to start with? The SC, LS, or GS? Also, are there any preferential years to get them out of? I know they began making them in 89 and around 94-96 they had an output increase (according to lextreme FAQ) and then 98/99 they went to vvt-i.

I found that info here, under variants: http://www.lextreme.com/1uzfe_info.html

I also read somewhere that pre-98 had some/all forged internals. Is this true and if so, does it hold true for each of the LS/GS/SC models starting from 89?

Anything 96 and newer is gonna be OBDII and would require all of the sensors and evap system to be in place to run correctly. The older ones may throw a code but won't affect the way it runs. The SC is better for a solid axle. (I am no familiar with the GS at all). Some had traction control, some didn't. Avoid it if you can.
