differnce between r150f's

I've done the 3.4 swap and its running fine other than my clutch. as my sig says 5vzfe with 35 inch tires and 5.29 gears.

untill a few days ago my truck has been running great but now push it to hard in 4th and the clutch slips. im looking for replacement hd clutch now but i still dont know what caused the slip. i only have 8,000 miles on the clutch. the assembly is 5vzfe fly, disc, pressure, pilot and 3vzfe throwout. i got this from andy zooks page. doing some research the manual 3.4 uses the r150f also but the part #'s for throwout bearings are differnt from the two r150f.

what gives?

since i need to replace it anyways, any suggestions? this new clutch needs to handle alot! i tow and play hard. while the trans is out i plan on doing a tri-stick dual t-case install

anyways anything to give me any incite on this would be awsome

I have the same setup as far as clutch goes and have been waiting for my rear driveline from Davez to get everything going (Dave is awesome by the way).

I havent driven this configuration yet but have my fingers crossed.

Also, I have the dual case and the triple stick as well.

I have the exact same and used oem parts. I ran my swap 2 years then decieded to sc it. So far its holding up as well. But i will be looking into a performance clutch thats slightly better than stock as its a dd and don't feel like having a heavy clutch pedal.

yes this is the correct setup for you. The throwout bearing is longer on the 3.4's because of how the clutch fork is. Remember the clutch fork is on driver's side. Yes they both have the r150f gearboxes, but the bell housings are just slightly different but still using the same bolt pattern. You should not be slipping unless the clutch was faulty? your flywheel was not turned down for the new clutch? That is very weird.

You resurfaced the flywheel, or a shop resurfaced the flywheel? I'm not sure what the step measurement is s'posed to be, but if it's too small that could affect your clutch engagement.
If you're looking for a heavy duty clutch that's not super stiff or quirky, I'd recommend Marlin's clutch kit. That's what I'm running, with an OEM 3.0 throwout bearing, and it's always smooth engagement and doesn't seem any stiffer than the OEM 3.0 clutch I had.

Just put their 1200 lb clutch into a swapped 4runner this last weekend. they use Aisin parts, and I didn't notice any more pressure at the pedal than my oem one. And they are a little cheaper than from the dealer too.

i have had several cases where marlin disappointed me so i dont do business with them.
i actually went with underdogs clutch. its a dual friction and holds 180 percent more than stock heres the link if stock holding on a 3.4 is 1200 like marlin says the 3.0 is, this clutch will hold 2160. thanks for the suggestions!

if you want to see pics check my shifter build follow link in my sig

hamish_18 has it smack on the money. The 3.4 has a longer input shaft and bellhousing, so it uses a longer release bearing.

Here is the 1988-1995 3.0-liter 3VZ-E R150F release bearing:

And here is the 1996-2004 3.4-liter 5VZ-FE R150F release bearing:

He did say that he had his flywheel resurfaced..... but this was the first thing that came to my mind when I was reading the thread. Toyota uses a 0.5mm step (~.0197"), but we like to run a whopping 0.028" step. We get our clutches to fully engage waaaay down at the floor to maximize the time-frame for optimum clamping force which gets the maximum life out of the clutch. Certainly we can't be the only ones doing this, but I implore you to find another place with as much flywheel step experimentation as us.

You can use either trans behind the 3.4, just need to use the t/o for that particular trans.
