Backup light not working-2nd gen 4runner
Back up lights aren't working. Is there a switch on the shifter or something other than on the ecu that needs to be wired in?
Also when I put the key in the ignition and turn it to ACC, the temp gauge autmatically jumps to the very middle even if I haven't had the truck running for a couple days. Does the 95 temp gauge read as a different ohm value than the 97 sender?
The new ecu/motor/ trans is from a 97 4runner into a 95 4runner.
Thanks.

If it is a manual there is a back-up light switch on the side of the transmission that gets activated when you put the vehicle in reverse. If it's an auto the switch is a contact that is part of the neutral switch.
If I've got this right, you swapped a 97 engine, transmission, ECU into a 95. I assume that you are using the 97 engine / transmission harness to the ecu and you have connected the remaining plugs from the 97 engine harness to the 95 body harness.
Very seldom is any motor swap plug and play. Even moving up 2 years I doubt if all of the wiring pin configurations are spot on. You have probably got some wiring issues with your engine harness connecting with the body harness.

Yeah. I have th engine and body harnesses matched up and working fine, No check engine light. I have four wires loose from the 97 shifter and four wires from the 95 body, coming from under the dash, 2 are green and 2 are white. I'm guessing these need to be connected somehow, just need a schematic or someone to tell me what to connect. I have the shift lock schematics for both years, but don't see any of the corresponding wires.

If I remember right the circuit is fairly simple. Power to the switch on the trans, out to the lights. The backup light wire was in my passing kick panel if I remember right.

So there is nothing coming from the shifter lever that I need to worry about? It is just the wire from the trans connected to the wire from the kick panel?

I believe so. I want to say that the wire is red-black but that could be wrong. Almost positive its red with something. Just look for the loom headed towards the back

Do i circumvent the plug (IH2) and splice the wires together?
Are the wires im gonna splice before the switch or both before and after if I am tracing wires from the back uplights forward? Are there just the two wires to splice or are there four, before and after the switch?

I think that the wires you need are running up the side, next to the seat, and into the passenger kick panel. I would think that its a black-orange which is IGN 2 usually that powers one side of the switch at the trans and then the red/? goes off to the lights.
From the switch just run a couple wires up and tag into the wires running to the kick panel under the carpet. Doesnt really matter where you grab the power to go to the switch as long as its ign or acc so the lights do not stay on when parked in reverse and go off with the key. I would use the B-O ign2 though. That is in one of the IH plugs
