3rz-5vz swap

Swap is mostly complete, truck starts and runs just need some info hopefully.

1-coolant gauge reads incorrectly (I hope) fire it up reads nothing.....idles for about 2min and gauge is pegged. full of coolant and bleed. guessing i need to swap sensors from the 4banger to v6?

2-tach reads really messed up. I am hoping I can just put some sort of a resistor inline with the tach signal. Just havent been able to find any info about which resistor to use.

3-o2 sensors...I am hoping to use the 4banger o2 sensors, does anyone know if they differ between the 2 engines?

I know this is my first post, but thats because I try and read as much as possible before looking like a complete moron(I don't need any extra help there)

1. I would surely swap the sender.

2. Most of the tach mods here are going to be for the 3.0 tach. I think that you may be best in swapping the gauge for a 3.4 gauge, or finding a 3.0 tach and adding the resistor as documented in many threads including mine. Maybe someone else can give more specific info, but I am thinking that trying to run a 4cyl tach may be more trouble than its worth.

Well. The temp sensor issue ended up being a ground that I never grounded. I bought a v6 tacoma cluster and the tach works like a charm.

My new problem is........check eng light is on and all the scan tools I have used wont communicate with the ecm. according to everything I have checked all the pins are in the correct location, I am unaware if the obd port worked prior to the swap or not. The one thing I do find strange is the power wire in my obd port reads 12v. but when I do a resistance to ground check it reads 0ohms. That has got me thrown for a loop bigtime. It got dark out too fast to really screw with it much more and I ran out beer. Any help on the obd port would be great. I have read the few threads about obd ports on here and have checked pretty much everything everyone else had issues with.

You are probably getting 0 ohms with the key off. What about with the key on?

Check your wiring again. You probably have overlooked something. I know thats not all that helpful, but still probably the best medicine.

I have question I haven't been able to figure out. The wire that comes from the ecu to the obd port shows that its a shielded wire. How important is that? Meaning I think that wire might be the source of my issues and I want to run a new wire straight from the ecu to the obd port. Does it have to be a shielded wire?

Got it. The wire that goes into the OBD2 port was in the wrong pin location, so either the ewd was wrong or I am completely retarded. I had it in that location from the factory but the wiring diagram showed me that it needed to be in pin 7 not 2. in pin 2 it works. Now I can reassemble dash and get some!

Went out and got a some miles on it today. I am really impressed with the power and I have owned 2 others with this motor just forgot how much power they really have. The only code it throws is a speed sensor fault, I dont have to worry about emissions so I dont really care. Just going to buy a cheapo scan tool to keep in the glove box.

By the way I am using my 4 banger o2s no faults yet I will update if anything shows.

Well I am trying to think of a way to trick my computer that the car is always still--speed signal 0mph. i have a cable driven speedo so I need a cable coming from my speed sensor to move the needle, I am guessing that since the motor came from a 4runner that it had abs and there fore wheel speed sensors. I cant use the marlin adapter or else i wont have an actual speed guage. any thoughts on how to simulate a not moving speed signal to the ecu?

Nevermind. After a little more reading it looks like the cluster will convert the speed signal for the ecu, I swapped the pin to where it says it should have been and went out and drove it, my obd2 scan tool was reading a speed signal so I am hoping like hell thats all it was, I will report more if needed.

Side note...I am going to need a new rear leaf pack this thing is getting some serious axle wrap with the new found power
