2000 Taco 5sp 3.4l into a SAS'ed 1995 PU 5sp 3.0l
OK. I've been collecting parts and info for just over a year now and the time has come for the 3.slow to go. In all fairness the 3.0 has been pretty good for me. I'm just tired of being passed by VW buses on mountain passes.
So.....I have a 2000 5vz-fe from a Tacoma that was mated to a 5sp. and supposedly has about 180, 000km on it (Sorry aboot the metric but I'm Canadian eh). It was involved in a slow flop or rollover I'm told. Haven't seen it run but I can't seem to find any reason why it shouldn't be fine. Got my fingers crossed. Cleaned it up and changed the timing belt, water pump idler bearing etc. It looked like the PO had just done them but they weren't OEM parts so I replaced them anyway.
Pulled the intake to take a look and the exhaust manifolds then I put them back on with new OEM gaskets. I did a leak down test. Numbers weren't what I would call awe inspiring but the more research I did on leak down test numbers the less it concerns me. Seems to be a lot of conflicting opinions on what it means and how important it is. Replaced everything with new gaskets. There was a lot of mud on the motor so it definitely wasn't a pavement princess but it was all on the outside.
Bought the full kit from ORS minus the oil pan. I have a rear sump pan on my 3.0l that I put on there after my SAS. Kit was expensive but I hate wiring so hopefully it works. I'm a little concerned about all the crossover cracking I have been reading about as well, I will definitely be making some kind of downpipe/bellhousing bracket. The ORS drill guide was money well spent.

Looks good. The only thing I would do differently is put an electric fan in while I had everything out. The mechanical one is fine, but I'd prefer an electric. Otherwise, the swap kicks buttocks.

What did you do for the oil dip stick? did you get the drill guide from ors before they closed?

Are you talking about the drill guide? If you pay the shipping and promise to get it back to me in a timely fashion I don't mind LENDING it to you. I need it back though as I have a couple buddies in line for it as well. I just like to hold on to that kind of stuff too. Never know when you'll need it again. Happy to send it to you on loan though. PM me and we can work it out.

Well nothing super exciting has really happened since I last posted. I started to disconnect everything from the 3.0 today. There sure is a lot of stuff bolted to that thing. Got everything undone except the bellhousing bolts, heater hoses and clutch line. The sas makes reaching everything sooo easy.
I had to cut the fuel line unfortunately. 19 years of neglect siezed the fitting. Incidently, my ORS instructions state that there is a female to female union on the line down by the passenger frame rail. On the tree that holds all the brake line connections. Mine is a straight male to female connection. No biggie but I was wondering if anyone else had this discrepancy.
Has anyone taken off the firewall grommet from the wiring harness and reused it. I had a look at it and aside form cutting the 3.0 harness it looks like it would be a nightmare to take off. As well as put on the 3.4 harness.

Ya so far it seems like everything is going to work out just fine. I'm not even going to need some of the parts that ORS sent me with the kit. ie the custom power steering high pressre line. Looks like my original will bolt up just fine. I'm not sure why they sent me a new clutch hose either. The original looks like it'll fit fine. We'll see once the 3.4 is in I guess.
