Exclamation 1994 toyota 3.0 to 3.4 or 4.0?

i have a 1994 4runner that has 234k miles and wont last much longer. i have access to a lot of junk yards up here and both the 3.4 and the 4.0 are in most of them. i have a manual trans in my 4runner right now and i would like to go automatic do to the fact my dad cant drive stick. i need some advice on what to do. im planning on doing the total chaos front long travel kit and leaf spring and shackle kit in the rear. if i swap the 3.0 out will the transfer case still work? any advice will help.

3.4 it. You have so much reading to do. It's all laid out at the sticky threads at the top. Good luck.

I haven't drove my 3.4 yet, just got it running but from what all the guys that did it, they were very happy with the results. I can't wait to get the exhaust on so I can drive it around.

3.0 t/c on a 3.4 trans? I think they have adapters for that, check inchworm or frontrange offroad, just a guess.

Curious, why a leaf spring in the rear?

I would spend the time and money and get the 4.0 vvt-i motor with the a750 5 speed auto. Your pocket book will thank you after the swap. Otherwise the 3.4 will be easier to find swap parts for that will bolt in.

I own a 2003 4runner with the 4speed a340 auto (yes the same as the older ones) and I get 9.5L/100km (24mpg us) on the highway and the worst gas mileage of 14L/100km (16.8 mpg us) while towing a camaro on a 2000 lb trailer (6500lbs on the scale) and never had an issue towing it.

There are so many good things about the 4.0 that it would be worth the swap and your pocket book will thank you for it in pure gas mileage. Thats just my opinion.
