CEL 27?? O2 sensor voltage?

I CEL came on a while back and I did the test lead between te1 and e1 to find that I had a code 27. I talked to my toy mechanic and he said no to be too worried.

Then I drill out the airbox and do a valve adjustment and the CEL goes out. Yipee.

A week or so go by and it's back. Is there anyway to test (i.e. voltage across the sensor or otherwise) to see if the sensor is working? Or to tell if it's reading too high/too low. I'd just as soon try to fix why it's running rich/lean then replace a $125 sensor and have the liht come back on.

O2 voltage should swing between about 0.2v and 0.8v about 10 times in 8 seconds at about 2500 RPM is all is working properly. Kind of hard to check, you need a small analong volt meter (i.e the "old fashioned" kind with the needle), or pop for an Air/Fuel gauge and hook it up. I put one in my '85 and find it to be a very handy gauge for driving. Between that and a vacuum gauge and you can get a good idea of how hard the engine is working and when one gear may be a better choice than another.
