Will a 86 22r directly fit 1st gen 20r truck?

Good day, I have a 1979 1st gen yota , truck is great minus the lack of power.. I would like to pull the 20r and drop in a later 22r off of a 85. A few questions before I get at it..

I have a webber carb on my 20r , will the carb work on the 22r ? Will the starter , exhoust manifold and distributer work on this 22r ? Bell housing and motor mounts are located the same as the 20r ? I just need this later 22r to work for a few weeks while I rebuild a early 22r with the 20r head off the engine I am running now....

Any more info on this swap would be appreciated..

Any help is good help, thanks for your time

You're swapping squirrels. I'd leave in the original squirrel if it ain't broken.

the awnser your looking for is yes, now the distrbutor and the exhuast manifold will not work due to the heads being different, youll need an orginal 20r manifold and dist. all the wiring if im right will match right up, welcome to yotatech

I have heard about this hybrid, although I also heard you need the 1st gen 22r engine, before 1985? The 22 r I have on hand is the later block ... I am working on getting the older block and build it up while running the newer 22r I have on hand ..

Is this hybrid engine worth the hassle? ? Can you run the 20 r head with stock valves in the 22r?
