2.7 coil pack motor into current 2.7 distributor motor help needed
I have searched and have not located anything. I have a 1996 Tacoma 4x4 with the 2.7 which has a distributor and is a 5 speed truck. This engine is bad. I also have a complete 1998 Tacoma 4x4 with the 2.7 which is a coil pack motor and has a 5 speed. I would like to put this motor into the 96 truck.
I am wondering if anyone has experience with this swap? I am wondering if I can replace the engine from the 98, along with the underhood wiring harness and the ECM. Will the 98 ECM plug into the existing in dash wiring harness. Anything else neede?
Thanks for any informtion.

I could never find out any definitive answer so I rebuilt the 96 distributor motor. I still have the 98 and would like to find a 97 or 98 truck to put it in. Someone has to know the answer, but I never found them. I am guessing you would have to change all the under hood wiring and the ecm. The ecm I think would be needed to drive the coil pack, etc. Then the rest of your options, such as tach, etc., would need to be about the same. These are just guesses...as I did not swap..
