Really though. its ridiculous. with the SFA its all right in front of me and simply bolted on. With a CV joint I feel like i have to juggle just to get the sucker in there. I recently replaced a CV, and it was a major pain in the ass...

kinda irrelevant to the "axle" but still SAS build related:

Picked up a set of 17x7.5 Fj Cruiser steelies... I'll be running 35x12.50R17s on them when the SAS is done. ( since im going with an Fj80 rear, i needed to go to atleast 16s, and since 17s have a cheaper tire price, i picked these up )

Smart ass hah well installation only takes 1-2 hours, if i had the locker but initially I planned on getting the entire axle done in february ( back at the beginning of february ) but it blows i'd have to wait till april just for the locker. It's all good though. I dont REALLY want to go with another locker, ( since i have 2 aussies, They work great and are pretty quiet ) But if i get impatient enough, i might go with a lockright or a spartan. So we'll see. I'll keep emailing Bill at Aussie locker and maybe he'll pull some strings for me. Or maybe i'll haggle him for a shirt and stickers for waiting and being a loyal customer

your SAS is being held up by a front locker?!?!? just do it already, it's not like you can't take the diff out and drop a locker in later.....

It's not like you need to have a front locker right this second, you can survive with 3 wheel drive for a couple months, trust me

Haha Im a victim of the "do it right the first time, or dont do it at all". I dont NEED the SAS, I WANT it. So therefore, i dont want to have to assemble the axle, put it under the truck, take it off the truck, disassemble it again, just to do the locker. So i'll just wait for it. Bill said hes gonna pull some strings and hopefully get it to me sooner.

MaK, your planning on running a FJ80 rear axle? How do you plan to get around the offset rear diff?

yeah exactly. its a pain. I'd rather have it be geared, locked and rebuilt before its even put in.

Shorten one side of it. Fj80 rears are 63 WMS. shorten the long side 5o make the axle 58.5 WMS. and have a custom shaft fabricated. it wont be "exactly" center diff, but it'll be close and wont interfere with the gas tank. The EASIEST way to run an Fj80 rear and have it center diff, is to shorten the long side to the same as the short side and buy another short shaft. then run 3" wheel spacers on each side. but Im a little meh for wheel spacers. so im gonna run it this way. I'll be picking up an FZJ80 rear with the e-locker and rear disc brakes. cutting all the bracketry off and welding spring perches to it. Full float rear, disc brakes, and E-locked.

I agree. I should post a pic of the mountain of parts that I have waiting for a few piddly things like frame tubes, shocks, and front shackles.

I am waiting until I have everything that is in my foresight because the things that I am forgetting, or don't know about, will be enough to already drive me nuts.

haha thats what I plan on doing. Im gonna be ordering my new front spring perches and U bolt flip kit from Ruffstuff. ( i've been kinda waiting for a sale, but i'm getting impatient ) But the first major spending I plan on doing is from marlin crawler. 5.29 gears, diff rebuild kit, brakes and all the axle rebuild parts. I initially planned on ordering the locker too so i could take the diff to have everything installed, but now my locker is BO'd

Im actually taking the truck a different direction, for now. Im just not at the point in my life where I need to be forking thousands towards my truck. ( just bought a house ) Im now just doing a small lift, slightly bigger tires, and keeping my 4.88s & lockers on IFS. So this is all on hold.
