well any runner or truck your gonna get is gonna need some kind of work, even if it hasnt had normal maintenance. Thats just a better negotiation point. If you dont want to do any work on the thing, then its probably not a good idea to get an older truck. Bottom line is that you need to drive the thing. I know its 12 hours away, so that might not be possible. I guess you just need to check craigslist every day till something pops up near you.
