Slight misfire at idle when in park

The 96' T100 I am considering (with the 3.4L) 184K, has a slight and occasional miss when idling in park. Is it probably just plugs and/or plug wires, or could this indicate more serious issues? Also- the check engine light is illuminated. Thanks in advance!

If the CEL is on, then you might have something to worry about. I have a similar issue with my '89. Between idle and 1000RPM there is what is best described as an occasional miss. Last time I had my truck in, my mechanic diagonsed it as a dirty TPS. When the throttle it in the idle position, the dirt on the TPS prevents the contact to sweep down to where it should be to tell the computer that the engine is at idle. This makes it run richer at idle than it should be and will occasionaly get an HC miss. I didn't want to rip the throttle body apart to fix it, so I've been living with it for about 6 months now. It's only a minor issue at idle, so I don't worry about it.

Thanks. The truck is at a local Toyota dealer and they priced it to me for $5800. It is a 96' SR5, 4WD, automatic, etc. He said they may "split" the difference with me on the replacement of the CV joints, but pop said he would be more concerned with the rough idle. I e-mailed and said if they check the engine light code, change the plug wires, plugs and CV joints and not charge to much more, then I would probably buy it.

CVs are not clicking now, but the covers are busted.

To update on this thread... it was the o2 sensor. Replaced and all was fine. No more stumbling and no more CEL illuminated.

No, its not my truck... just one I had test drove. I am pretty sure it was an original type, because the truck belongs to a Toyota dealership. All of the work was done there.
