1985 4runner wiring harness melted!!
Sooo... Just spent the last month or so turning a 22re with 400k Miles on It into a brand new motor! Runs amazing...until, I was heading out of town for the holidays and suddenly the car began to die, slow down/chug to the side of the road where it finall died.
The longest portion of the wiring harness (the wire that runs across the top of the motor and plug in way over at the igniter) had been resting on the exhaust manifold and melted through. I wired it back together and it was still a no go. It wants to start but immediately dies.
I need to know where to start! Fuses are all good. Could it be the igniter fried or coil? Ecu?
Help!!
Thanks!

I ended up extending those wires and routing them along the firewall.
My igniter tested bad, but still ran.
I suggest
1) check for spark with a spare plug grounded on the block.
2) check for fuel.
