TEQ is "Toyota" spelled in Katakana, one of the Japanese phonetic alphabets. It has been used as a Toyota logo in the past. It's a lucky symbol because it requires eight strokes.

Didn't we learn when this was a fad on import cars back in the '90s?

You have to install a character set Mike. I _think_ you can do it from the normal XP CDs, but I'm not sure.

I asked a Japanese engineer about this here at work, and he said this means:

"Scorpion of constellation"

No...it's definitely 8. Going right and down is one stroke.

It's been a long time since I studied japanese, but they have three alphabets, one (hiragana) is phonetic and used for native japanese words, another (katakana) is phonetic and used for foreign words (like television) and the last (kanji) is single characters for words or ideas, similar to chinese characters. I find it odd that that sticker spells out Toyota in katakana.

TEQ, look under your hood and you will probably find it stamped on some parts, that is what Toyota has used for a long time.
