from synthetic blend to regular oil
I am thinking of swithing back from synthetic blend to regular oil.I know it's ok to switch from regular to synthetic and I know you're not supposed to mix the 2 but is it a problem going back to regular oil?

if u went full syn, and u had been driving on full syn for a couple of oil changes i would say stay with syn, it lubricates better and doesnt lose its viscosity as much as dino oil. you can switch back and forth, but im not really understanding why u would wanna do that, dino is only a few dollars cheaper then syn blend. if its cuz you have a leak, imo its not gonna change anything there.

I don't have any leaks but my 87 goes through oil pretty quickly and I would rather use a good regular motor oil than dumping in blend every week.

It doesn't blow smoke but it goes through about a qt. every 600 miles or so. I'm sick of dropping double the money on the oil. The motor only has about 7,000 miles, if that.

if the motor only has 7k on it since it was rebuilt, and your burning 1qt of oil every 600 miles, i would say that you have more of an issue with what your motor is doing rather then what your putting into it.

If I drive it for a few weeks (250 miles a week), then I usually have to put in a qt about every 2-3 weeks. It doesn't leak a drop.

I have the same issue with mine. No burning, no leaks.
My problem was that the valve cover gasket developed a small leak around the sparkplug hole, and oil was weeping through.
Changed gaskets and voila, no more oil usage.

The only smoke I get is when it's the first cold starup but it's black do to my 250,000 mile injectors leaking. I have to pop the cover and do a rocker adjustment so I'm going to double check everything.

I bought my truck 93 pu v6 4x4 about a yr ago and they guy I bought it from had synthetic in it. It had a leak at the back of the valve cover. I switched to regular oil and the leak went away.,, Go figure. I think synthetic caused the leak on my 130k motor. Anyways I also burn a bit of oil aswell. I think it's the nature of the beast.

Yeah I'm sure it's nothing bad with the motor and it's just going to do it. I'm not worried about it. I'm wondering if the oil will last longer with the regular oil.

What engine oil did you break the motor in on? If you used synthetic or blend I belive that's your problem. Dino oil needs to be used to allow the necessary wear to occur between the cylinders and pistons.

Then you havent realized the benefits of synthetic. Change your oil once a year or every 25K, filter every 5K. Even with as little as 15K miles its still cheaper... and better for your engine. Throw a bypass filter on there and you can go 10K on a full flow and 25K on a bypass.... it causes less wear, and lasts longer.... really its cheaper... kinda like buying a toyota... a little more $$ up front but at the end it was cheaper...
