Supercharger
Well I just acquired a 98 4runner with the tan/grey TRD s/c. It was supposed to replace my 92 4runner with the 3.slow. Drove it for 3 days and got a loud rattle. Read around here and found that Magnuson was the place to go, so I called Dave @ Magnuson he told $375.00 for the bearings in the nose piece; but there was no guarantee that it was salvageable since the first gens were no longer manufactured. So since I live in Oklahoma anyways I'm going to give PSE a shot. I will let you all know how it goes. I have read some of the comments about them, but they seem to be a few years old. I'm going to pull it this weekend and try and get it down there in the next week....So wish me luck and I'll keep you all posted

Sweet upgrade! I just got a 1st gen supercharger a few weeks ago. I also called magnuson about a rebuild and they told me the bearings was the only thing they could replace as parts for the 1st gen (gray) s/c are discontinued and out of stock. parts like rotors/housing/and nose cone.
then I called pse and talked to ed martinez and told him what magnuson said "yeah they dont have the parts for them cause i bought them all"
lol ok that works. got it back and it looks great they even repainted the trd letters red. yet to bolt it on yet to really test it. Be prepared to spend $800 though.

Yeah people can pop these things on at any time and something else to think about, it might have even been used when it was installed.
I have to ask another question, did the PO (previous owner) install any fuel mods to help handle the additional fuel needed with a SC? This is even more important with the older trucks that have the older/less accurate front O2 sensor that provides feed back for air/fuel ratio adjustments.

When you get time read through Gadget's research on fueling a supercharged 5VZFE. http://www.gadgetonline.com/Super.htm
Some of the links in this write-up are broken, but you can fix it by editing the address so the the first word starts with a CAPITAL. For example, change: "http://www.gadgetonline.com/fuel.htm" to "http://www.gadgetonline.com/Fuel.htm"

I went to the PSE shop today with Cody and was very impressed with the owner Ed and PSE. I expected him to be very knowledgeable on superchargers but was surprised by his knowledge on tuning and building engines as well.

Well I got the supercharger dropped off at PSE in Edmond, Dale/ Mt Goat met me there. Ed the owner of PSE was very knowledgeable, professional and super helpful. So for a total rebuild plus actuator and tax came to a hair over $900.00. And the waiting process begins.....

It's been a week and a day now. Ed told me he would call last Thursday. Well it is Monday so I called and got a recording stating that they(PSE) were really busy and to email them and they would respond.... So here I am back to waiting. However during this down time I have done the grey wire mod and added some silverstar lights.
