No Spark. NEED HELP!!
Ok my truck wont start. I replaced a head gasket and when I first put it all back together it wouldn't start. I know I had the distributer in wrong cause it was making a popping noise when I tried to start it. I assumed this meant that I had a spark and it was firing, just not at the right time. I have installed the distributer a bunch of times and I'm sure it is at TDC on the compression stroke. I eventually pulled the first plug and put it in the wire, grounded it and tried to start it and it wasn't sparking at all. Nothing. Cant figure out why. I have new plugs, new wires, a new distributer cap and rotor. If it was sparking at first but isn't now, why? Did I break my distributer? All ground wires are connected. Could my ignition be broken? I never messed with the coil so I don't know how it would break. I really need some help, I have got to get this thing back on the road. Oh, and it's a 1980 toyota pickup with a 22r, not sure what year the engine is, but it's an early model with the dual row timing chain.

If you have the diagnostic tools, check all the electrical parts out. When my truck wasn't getting spark, it was the ignitor (ignition module). Expesive little buggar, though, so I'd find a way to test it before just buying a new one.
Also, yeah, since you had the head off, double or triple check all wire connections and grounds.

Double and triple check your timing. When you installed the timing chain, are you sure that it was at TDC? Are you sure that the pin on the cam was at 12:00? When you know that's set right, move to the distributor. Make sure the contact on the rotor button is pointing at #1 on the cap (top left connection).
Once you know the timing is not an issue, you can start looking at spark.
