ifs 7.5 diff messed up?
ok just to make a long story short i went offroading got stuck in a stream that submerged my whole front end and could not get it out for about 5 hours later....my friend came with a "come-along" and in the middle of pulling me out he said start the truck up stay in 4 low and just idle it in gear so it can help me a little on ratcheting you out....in the middle of me idleing it in gear it started to make the most horrible sound in the front end....when ever this sound would accur my front wheels would stop spinning...it sounded like my cv spline shafted to my automatic locking hubs were skipping and stripping out??? sooo i had a friend look to see what was going on when it made the noise and he said that my passenger side cv joint was "twitching" while my drive shaft was spinning to the front diff...i have no idea what this could be...i mean over the winter i had the front diff out of it inspected it, the bearing were good the carriar pre load was good the pinion preload was good backlash was perfect and the "wear" pattern on the gears were good i mean i dont know at this point of what to think of. HELP!
thanks, colton

Unlock your hubs and turn your front shaft and see if the CV's turn or not. If that checks then your diff should be fine and it's probably one of your CV shafts. Either way I'd drain your diff fluid. Any metal on the drain plug magnet will let you know also if the diff is screwed up and if you don't have a diff breather extension the diff is full of water.

It's hard telling.. IFS diffs and CV shafts are weak when you actually wheel them. Spinning and then getting traction is a sure way to blow them up. It's not that hard to pull off the piece that keeps auto hubs locked all the time. That would expose your splines.
