Gen1 4Runner center console question
OK. I wanted an SR5 console to go in my 85 4Runner so I bought a grey one off ebay a year or so ago with the intention of spraying it brown. I know that it came out of a 4Runner but I don't remember what year. In the meantime, I acquired a brown one from an 86 mini truck. The only issue with the one from the mini is I needed to change the large black storage holder out for mine which is smaller but has the switches. In the process I noticed that the grey one won't fit in my 85 4Runner as the plastic side trim in front is a coupe of inches longer. Everything else looks more or less the same dimensionally.
Well, now I don't know what year(s) the grey one will fit. It clearly won't fit in an 85 5 speed. Are the consoles different between the auto and manual or did the console change at some point and, if so, when? I know that they changed the dash in the 4Runner in '87 so maybe they changed the center console as well? I looked at the second gen consoles and they are quite different so it's got to be '89 or earlier.
Anyone have any idea what year(s) 4Runner the grey will fit into and if it makes any difference if it's auto or manual?

I have now seen a photo of one that looks like the grey one in an 86 2WD 22RET truck. I had wrongly assumed that because it had the 3 switch slots that it had to come out of a 4Runner. Now I'm beginning to suspect that the consoles with the longer bottom trim piece (like the grey one) came in 2WD Gen1 trucks.

The gray one is from an 88/89 V6 4Runner. It won't clear a 4cylinder transfer case shifter. There were 4 different flavors of manual transmissions in the 1st gen:
Carbed 4 cylinder, F/I 4 cylinder, F/I turbo 4 cylinder, and V6. All of the 4 cylinder models used the same console, but the shifter dust boot, leather boot & plastic shifter bezel are different between the R151 and the G or W series (I'm not sure if there's a difference between the G or W series though). The V6 is it's own animal altogether; the R150 used a different console, bezel and boot as the transfer case shifter is much further forward and the regular shifter is further back.
