2 pinion = 4 cylinder rear end
4 pinion = V6 rear end.

Not always. I have seen V6 thirds with two pinions.

very true, but i'm speaking in terms of generality.

an easy way to ID a "V6" 4 pinion 3rd member is that it will have 4 ribs on it, compared to the 3 that a 4 cylinder 3rd will have. however, i've heard that the 3rd and 4th gen 4runners with V6 3rds have less ribs, so yet again, take it with a grain of salt

So i know this a really old thread. But I'm trying to figure out the gear ratio in the rear end of my 94 pickup V6 3.0. I know that no one will Know what it is for that exact truck but if you could just tell me how to figure it out that would be awesome.
