I just took it for a drive expecting my ears to possibly pop and it to be fairly loud. I am amazed at how quiet it actually is considering how loud the deckplate mod is. All I can hear is a light sound by the glovebox and when gunning it it lets out a small roar but overall not much louder that the deckplate in the cab. I also didn't notice any change in pressure - it must not be that airtight in the cab.

Cool, that was fast! I didn't expect someone to do this mod so quickly after I posted it. I'm really glad I did it, now I have a bit more peace of mind and no more water worries...

Hey 44Runner, your PM inbox is full.
I am considering getting a snorkel.
Anybody knows with the Taco snorkel will work on the 4Runner 3rd generation without a problem?
I see that 44runeer has one ...
I am wondering which one he got.

I tested out my $10 snorkel system yesterday. I was playing in some mud bogs and I found one that didn't look much different then the others. I went into it and the water was coming over my hood. I made it out with some noisy belts and a lot of crap in the brakes. I opened up my airbox and a little water got in from the top of the box. I need to come up with a better seal. The snorkel system itself didn't leak at all.
All I can say is it was the best $10 I have ever spent. My engine would be toast if I would have done it.

wahoo old thread!
is abs pipe (black) supposed to be a common item at a local home depot/lowes store? i can't seem to find it and of course no one knows what i'm talking about. i would really rather get abs because it comes black instead of using ugly pvc...
anywhere else to get it?

This is one mod that has saved my engine time and time again.....
I've driven through water that went over the hood and only got a few drops inside the airbox. Most likely through the lid on the top. Since doing this mod I've helped 3 other members, Casey, Charles and Lance with a similar designs.
The reason for ABS is mentioned in my write-up, 3" PVC won't fit the stock airbox properly.
This mod works on 4th gens, 3rd gens with stock fenders 4 cyl or V6
as for the stock antenna, there's a quick fix, by simply rotating it 180 degrees to clear. One bracket needs to be relocated.
Here's the other thread

i have now been to 3 lowes and 3 home depots around town...none of them have the abs pipe that yall use. i dont even bother asking anymore, they just lead me to this huge accordion drainage tubing. everything else is pvc...what am i missing? is it in some other random section?

I've been wanting to do this with my tacoma for a while now but I have a question for you Bruce. What, if anything did you use to secure the pipe into the ~3" hole that you had to cutout? Did you just glue it to the sheetmetal? I'd like to make sure that it will never fall out...

I used silicon glue to hold it in the hole I cut into the cab. As for securing the tubing, I cheated and just got a can of foam insulating and sprayed a few dabs here and there to hold it from moving. I didn't care to make it look pretty, just wanted to make sure it would never come loose. The foam is easy to remove if I need to take the pipe out in the future.....
garrett1478, I wonder if the housing code in TX don't use ABS pipe, everywhere out here has it in stock.
