whining sound

Hi i have a 87 toyota 4runner 22re and im getting a whining sound around the engine, i cant seem to narrow it down exactly but when i give it rpm it's pitch increases. The only thing i can think of is mabye a bearing, say water pump or cam shaft or crank shaft or seomthing, any ideas??

cheers

Power steering pump? Loose pully belts? Check your fluids?
Something my be just vibrating but check these things.

You didn't state whether the whine occurs out of gear or rolling, under power, in gear. If it only whines while in gear and rolling see if the whine goes away in 4th gear...if so refocus your attention to the tranny.

Check the idler pulleys on the A/C and P/S belts (if present) and see if they are wearing out (will feel loose or gritty while turning). Easy test is to remove those belts and run the engine and check for the noise.
