wheel spacer, Tire Size, trimming inquiry. 02 taco

i have an 02 tacoma v6 trd 4x4. it has a 2 inch crappy skyjacker lift with blocks front and back. im going to put on icon coilover ext travel front suspension with total chaos UCA. and am removing the front bumper for an all pro baha style bumper w/ winch. the rear suspension will be a deaver 8pack leaf replace with icon shocks. so i should if im not mistaken get 3" of lift front and back from this lift. i have 265/75/16 tires on the current 2" lift with no rub in any off road situation. i would like to put on 285/75 with 16 or 17 inch wheels. i have to leave on my mud flaps do to state law. I can do the minor trimming that will need to be done to front of wheelwell if necessary but i dont want any UCA rub. so what size wheel spacer should i use to allow the bigger tires to fit without major rubbing after minor trimming to wheel wells. want to get as small as possible with the wheel spacers to avoid wearing out bearings to quickly. any thoughts? examples? advice? thanks much!

285s will eat up front mud flaps.

With the wheel spacers it is going to be a trade off. They will decrease the rubbing on the UCA's, but they will increase the rubbing on the fenders.

geezus. so its rubbing either way, i can either get fender rub or uca rub. and taking off my flaps is the fast track to getn a ticket from these bored 5-0's here...i guess i should just stick with 265/75/16 as much as i dont want to. kind of a downer...taking the front bumper off should alleviate a lot of front fender rub and i can always do the pinch weld/fold to wutever is left in the front well. as for the back of the well, have to trim that including the flaps? is there a way to place flaps further back ? , even if its just to make it look like it has sum flaps irregardless if they actually are doing dirt control. So what im asking is if i remove front bumper. trim front well and remove flaps and trim sum of the back well. will there still be rubbing? if so will 1.5'' spacer fix that? or just create more issues?

If you get bigger tires. It is going to depend a lot on the wheels, and their offset, you are planning on running. Wheels that are close to the factory specs are going to be your best bet. Then if they rub on your UCA's then add the smallest spacer possible to make it stop.

Or you could get some aftermarket UCA's.

If your tires are already rubbing on the fenders, then adding spacers is probably just going to make it worse.

You can also go with a tall, skinny tire like a 255/85/16. They're cheaper than 285's, but limited in the options you can get. They're actually a hair taller than 285's, but a lot lighter with less rolling resistance. If you run skinny without spacers, you won't be rubbing on uca's, and you can stuff them a lot easier with a shorter lift. I've got them on my 4Runner with about 2" and they only rub when they're really stuffed.

hmm alright. well i dont want skinnier tires for sure though. i'd like wider if possible. im gunna be running aftermarket control arms (total chaos) with ext travel icon coilovers. having an aftermarkert UCA, will that help to avoid uca rub with the bigger tires? also i want to put on 285/75/16 bfg mudders. im not sure about tire offset and how that works or what makes one tire's offset more compatible to my factory set.

What is wrong with narrow tires?

Some great information in these links:

http://www.expeditionswest.com/resea...tion_rev1.html

But yes, different UCA's should help.

ok well, lets talk backspacing, and wheel offset. Im going with 16 inch wheel. 285/75/16. if they dont pan out worth crap then i can down grade back to 265/75/16 like i currently have on. So im getting new wheels along with the new set of tires. what kind of backspacing do i need to look at to best suit my 02 taco with the larger tires and aftermarket suspension? Also what kind of offset of wheel do i need to be looking for to get the closest to factory specs? to help avoid rubbing?
