I was offered a winch which I'm going to put on my '74 FJ40.
Its a 1 day offer, so I'd need to make my mind by tonight.

Question for all of you guys with winches and/or knowledge experience; Which one to take?

Option 1: WARN 9.5cti
Brand new in the box $1299 + tax - discount = $1367 from my wallet.
125' 5/16 steel cable

Option 2: WARN 8274-50
Brand new in the box (Cash Sale) $1400 + shipping = $1520 from my pocket
150' 5/16 steel cable
No Warranty as its a cash sale

I know Warn are good winches and I have 9.5xp on my 4Runner. Should I worry about warranty with 8274? How long is the warranty from Warn, 1 year?

I like the style and looks of 8274. Its kind of retro as Cruiser is vs. sleek 9.5cti. It holds 25' more of cable, but I'll probably replace it with rope anyway at some point. But 9.5cti is backed with warranty and its $170 cheaper at the end (please note that prices are my local prices in Toronto, Canada, US are cheaper, but then shipping kills everything + I have to pay custom fees). 9.5cti is also lower in profile, so looks like more air comes to radiator, does it matter with FJ40?

What would be your choice if you have a choice like this? Please speak up as I'm kind of hard to make a decision.

8274 will definately match the retro look and they have been made for YEARS... from what i've heard they are the AK47 of winches...

However, the 9.5 is much newer technology... it looks like it has better performance as well.... up to you.

Based on specs 9.5cti is faster and draw less power:
8000 lbs pull 7.59/6.10 ft at 370/450 Amps
8274 also 21lb heavier.
What about rating? 9.5cti is 4.6 hp 9'500 vs. x hp 8'000? Does it makes a difference?
I know 8274 is Classic and been for long time. People buys them. Why if there are better spec winches from the same manufacture at lower price? There should be something behind the numbers...???

Seeing how you have the money for one in your wallet, and the money for the other in your pocket...I can get both and mount one on the front and one on the back. Haha. Im kidding, just ignore me. Haha.

But the 8274 is a LEGENDARY winch. Id pick that one.

It looks like the 8274 is only faster when it's the 24v version, otherwise the 9.5cti is faster, and definately has more technology in it. The 8274 is like a fj40, where the 9.5cti is like a fj cruiser.... both capable performers, but the fj40 is rougher around the edges and tougher than the FJC...

I went with 8274-50. Hope to get it soon.
I was also debating what synthetic line to chose for this winch.
Should I go with 5/16" or 3/8"?
I can fit up to 125" 3/8 there and up to 150' of 5/16".
5/16" x 100' $271 --- 3/8" x 100' $348
5/16" x 125' $320 --- 3/8" x 125' $417
5/16" x 150' $370

Bad news for me.
I got $&@... Good news it didn't cost me $1500.
I just got a call back from the guy. He said that his wife kind put a veto on this sale. She don't want him to sell his 8274 to me and keep the money for his Jeep, and he doesn't want to give them to her.
End of story... I don't have my 8274.
So, I might pick that 9.5cti my friend has on sale in his shop. It's still a good winch too for the 40-series, plus Warn gives $100 rebate on new winches this month.

My question would be if I can fit 125' of 3/8" rope I have into 9.5cti? Websites list that I can fit 100' as originally winch has 125' of 5/16" steel cable.
Did someone tried this before? Do you know if it would work?
