taking off emission system on 82 toyota
hey yall
i got an 82 toyota pickup. with an 22r engine.
my father and i are thinking that taking off the emission system will make it run better.
whenever we first got it we thought it was the carb well we got the replaced, then replaced the fuel pump (2) and filter. we don't know what the hell is wrong with it, i did notice that the bimetallic valve was dry rotted and broken off, we aint spending 60 dollars for it. so if you know whats wrong with it please tell me if not please tell us how to take the emission system off and where to get the things to cover everything up. Thanks

Well, without more info, or photos, or a description of the symptoms, it's hard to say. There is a thread in the Pre-84 section on removing emissions stuff. Basically, all you really need is the vacuum advance. All other vacuum and emissions stuff can go. Get yourself a manual to see what hoses do what. Most can be plugged with golf tees until you make more permanent block-offs.
