would not not cost just as much or the same to get a new one?

If you just want to plug and play, there are several OEM distributors on line that ship. I'm near Torrance, CA, and Carson Toyota of CA has a full on line service for parts, all at around 20% off or more.(keep shipping in mind). Toyotapartsonline.com, toyotapartsbarn.com, etc.

My local one, with the page you need is loaded, ...... I doubt shipping is any more from wherever you are in LA. HOWEVER, ....you can print out the page I'm going to give you and tell them at whatever dealer that's nearest to you, ..... "This is the price for your dealership parts outlet on line.... can I get it here?" It works for me, and now I get all my parts at 20% off, whether 20$ or 1000$! Here's the link, and YES, use OEM, whether you rebuild or order new..... (although,I had a Kragen Starter with Nippondenso inner parts in my truck for 189K miles that I drove it, without any problems. I think, personally, I GOT LUCKY! lol. NOT been having that luck with aftermarket in the last few years.... So I go OEM on more critical parts and ALL sensors. Here's the site link for Carson Toyota/Lexus OEM on line.........

Good luck

No, it's much cheaper to rebuild. But, if you're not comfortable doing it, and you just want a 'new Toyota starter', ...that's the route you would be the safest taking. There might be some guys who chime in with sites where you can get them for a lot cheaper....

Here's an example of a wholesaler.... it's 7$ cheaper, but you have to pay shipping. If you can get Carson or Downtown LA Toyota(not sure where you are) to give you that price, well, then you save more than 7$ on shipping, including the core you have to send. Just call the dealer and ask them for the online price... can't lose, trying, eh?

This is the other one that's a lil cheaper..........

No, I know FINDING one isn't a problem.... but look at the difference on those links between MSRP and YOUR price....

Far as aftermarket, my buddy has one from NAPA with 200K plus on, right now, and he's not had an issue. It's a starter, JG, .... as long as you stay away from "CHINA" products, you're gonna be ok..... BUT, you'll always be best off with the OEM stuff. It just LASTS. I have my original starter in this truck with 257K miles on it. Just cleaned up the innards, etc., and it's golden.

wow..that's impressive. how have you managed to have the same starter..? I had mine replaced in 2006, which was actually replaced by the Toyota dealer under a warranty with them, because the original one i bought from them failed in a year. i thought for sure they were supposed to last longer than that, and it seems Ive been through a few, which is why im trying to ask you guys..

Sounds odd to me, lasting only a year. Is it possible that you have some type of short or flywheel issue that is causing them to get overloaded/chewed up? I don't know how "I managed it", lol.... I also had an Alternator in my 86 4Runner that had 240K miles on it,....Original. I think that, often, those parts take a dive because of other electronic or otherwise issues.

i know, its weird...im not a fan of going to the dealers anyways, they hate working on old trucks...I always wind up having a problem, so i prefer to just do it myself...but like to get as much info as possible on buying my parts first...
any thoughts on the 1.0kw 1.4kw?

Is it a Denso starter? That's odd...

jg, something you should know... There are no after market parts that are higher quality or have better QC than OEM.

The "best parts" came on your truck...
