sas and lift question about shocks?
Hey guys, so i recently traded my 1999 GMC Jimmy SLS 2 door 4x4 for 2 1989 Toyota pickups, ones a parts truck with a 22R and the other has a lift,SAS, and a V6 here is my issue/question:
My truck has a solid axle swap and a lift, the guy told me it had a 6" suspension lift, how can i tell if it is actually a 6" lift? can i measure it somehow? i need shocks because my truck didn't come with any. i found the "Bilstein 5125 12" Shock" online and the measurements which i compared to my truck and it measures up perfectly but i don't wanna dish out $100 a shock when ranchos are like $50. i have a friend who owns a napa store here and can get my a extreamly good deal on ranchos or procomp shocks
This might be in the wrong section so if it is im sorry

Assuming they both have uncut fenders and the same size rim, measure from the top of the wheel rim to the bottom of the fender and compare.
There is also this thread for cheaper shock options: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showt...=579352&page=2

they both have uncut fenders and 15" rims. i measured on the parts truck and the distance is 15"s and on the lifted truck its like 20.6"s so 6" lift i assume? i cant order off online because i no longer have a credit card due to stupid companies getting a hold of it and making stupid expensive charges somehow, and in my small town all we have is a Canadian tire and Napa for parts stores, and Canadian tire doesn't know s*** about vehicles ha-ha,

most places take paypal, which you can link to a bank account if you don't have a credit card
But either way, look at that pirate link as there is mention of Ford F250 rear shocks having the kind've travel you're looking at. I'm willing to bet you'll have a hard time sticking a 14" shock in there, 12" or around there would fit better I'm sure.. Adjust bump stops to suit of course.

needles to say i got myself into more that expected, he told me all it needed for a saftey was e-brake, shock hoops n shocks, box, tail lights....WELL the whole driver and passenger floor was rotted out, so were both cab corners, the frame is rusted right through on both sides, the tranny was only held to the engine by 4 bolts, the tranny wasnt even bolted down, he didnt finish cutting out the ifs, the seat is seized in place with the heads of the bolts stripped out, the seat belt plug in isnt bolted down because the bolts broken out of it, theres no 5th gear, reverse takes some fighting to get it to work, and when he made the automatic cab into a standard he did the worse cutting job cutting the hole for the shifter to come through, it needed a whole new high steer kit because it was all welded very weakly together and broke trying to get it on the trailer, theres no front gears or drive shaft for it, the gas tank was rotted out of it.....and this is just the start of all the problems ive found, and lucky me i found all this once i got home
