New headlight assembly questions(1st Gen Truck)

ok guys I did some searches and what I found was for 4runners and newer model trucks. Although my 82 headlights work, I am looking for some newer lights. Not looking to spend a ton of money as I would like to spend money on some offroad lamps once I get my new front bumper on. However, again I would like to get something a little brighter.

I have seen the assemblies on ebay, seen some of the HID kits, but I am really looking for some hands on experience from you guys. Should I just get replacements or put the newer light technology into it? Any help i do appreciate it.

Is this in the wrong section? No info on new headlight assemblies? If so could a moderator put it in a more appropriate section?

Your '82 has standard 7x6 headlights...same as every other Toyota with square headlights.

There are probably thousands of threads on headlight upgrades. Try searching a little harder.

7x6 is not a square.

I imagine in the time you spent telling him to search harder, you could have offered some helpful guidance, while at the same time, helping save him some time.

OP, if you're looking to upgrade to a new housing, I would suggest ditching the sealed beams, and getting an h4 upgrade. You can find them on eBay, or from Hella. It's rather inexpensive, and a night and day difference in light output.

I used the "AutoPal" sets on eBay I believe... Vital22re is now using my old setup on his truck.

These are the exact ones I purchased. Note that they're eCodes, so the cutoff is a bit different than you'll be used to. They do not have signs on the sides of the highways in Europe, so there is no reason for the sides of the roads to be lit up. I never really noticed this.

Thank you so much for the post and the PM! I do appreciate it!

And BMCEL i don't exactly disagree with you but KEY WORDS... really are the "KEY". Once you told me 7x6, I searched that and did find a lot more threads with info(some of which you posted in). I am out of town and not by my truck or manual to get the light details, however I could have taken some more time to search it I suppose. I think the schools of thought are that I found it myself, so he should too. Or I found the info and it took a lot of time, so here is the fast track to what you need to get started. I believe that if you can help someone get started it isn't cheating or doing that person a dis-service. Also I posted this in Newbie tech for a reason .

Thanks again for the advice and I can't wait to get going on this!
Jeremy.

Also I read a write up that these bulbs are another great option to put into the new lamps
http://www.powerbulbs.com/product/ph...eadlight-bulbs

Do you think they are worth it over what comes in the H4 EURO kit?

I was not disappointed with the bulbs that came with the housings. They're a more white light than your average filament bulb, but didn't last too long, a few months at most. For free though, I don't see a point in replacing them until they're burnt out.

I have no experience with the Phillips bulbs you linked, I replaced mine with Sylvania Ultra Whatevers when my free bulbs burnt out.

The H4 conversion is an awesome way to update the lights in a 1st Gen truck.
And welcome to Yotatech..though a round eye 1st gen is just a hair better than one with 7x6's

edit, from my build thread..i think these were 55w low/100W high beams with Hella housings...no aimed right though

I didn't mean to come across as a jerk...just pointing out that there are a ton of threads on this topic.

The Autopal e-code housings have awesome feedback. Pair that with a headlight relay harness and some good halogens and you're set. The only thing better is a projected HID setup.

My relay harness:
