I was pulling a 2000lb boat up a hill from a stop and got a really bad shutter. Ive had this truck for two years and the clutch has gradually gotten worse, use to be I let it out and itd drive over any thing with little gas... Got to the point where I had to give it gas just to take off. I put in a new autozone flywheel and clutch kit, master and slave, beld it and its still shuddring but only in first, I asked a friend and he said he uses 60 grit sand paper on new flywheels and recomend I take it out wheeling. Has anybody else had this kinda shutter?

Did you clean the flywheel before putting it in? Most metal parts like that come with an oil coating on them to protect them from rust. It may seem like a good idea to wheel it and burn it off, but not so fast. A new clutch needs time to burn in or you run the risk of glazing it over from heat. Not sure how much damage oil would do to the disk because it is a coating but not that much. Anyway you may end up needing to replace the disk and clean the flywheel. I am not 100% on that.

Yea I cleaned the fly wheel and pressure plate with break cleaner befor installing it, made sure no oil or grease was on it, tighnted the bolts evenly then torked em. Ive replaced clutches in fords, chevys, peterbuilts, motor cycles, quads, never had any problems like this before...

Im some what of a perfiectionist... and this shutter is very annoying and keeping me from getting evey thing this little tractor has to offer.

Clutch chatter can come from heat, cheap clutch disc/pressure plate, flywheel not machined properly, or driving style (which is generally where the heat comes from). Clutch master/slave can also affect this if not engaging smoothly and consistently. Or not have the correct step on flywheel will generate heat if its to shallow.

I don't know how you drive, but best way to fix it---remove the old clutch & flywheel, have flywheel machined with proper step (I think my '84 calls for a .023" but I had them do a .026" for better grip). Replace clutch with a quality 1200lb unit from Marlin. That's my advice....

500 miles after putting in a new clutch. The shutter is still present but alot less... only when taking off in first? I hauled a load of wet wood and had no shutter at all, If I feather the gas just right it drives ok... The auto zone clutch is a p.o.s. I could take off from a stop in third with the old toyota clutch! auto zones barly takes off in second. I think Im gona put up this for now and do a engine tranny swap in a few months. Thanks for the help!

I highly recommend the Marlin 1200lb clutch. Lots of grip but still streetable.
Easy pedal for daily driving.
Stock grip is about 8-900lbs.

Never go to auto zone for parts...it's to expensive to be cheap.
