New brakes for 1998 4Runner?
My 1998 4Runner 4WD SR5 V6 3.4 liter displacement engine, fuel injection 4-speed automatic ECT transmission has started whistling as I am driving, only stopping when I hit the brakes. I'm thinking new brake pads and possibly rotor work are needed. Before I drive it into a garage, anybody have an idea how much this should cost? Thanks.

its one of the most simple repairs on the truck, replace the pads yourself and see how it sounds from there

they cost as much as u want to spend on pads i buy the lifetime warranty pads from autozone for about 25 i think and then when they wear down u get new ones for free cant beat it at that price

I just replaced both rotors and pads on my 98 last week. I chose to go with Oreilly's because I used to work there so I still receive a small (very small) discount. I went with Brakebest rotors and Wagner thermoquiet pads and the bill was roughly $108. However; double check the rotors before you leave the store. The computer had the info for the T4r mixed up. It listed a smaller, 5 lug rotor for the trucks with 16" wheels instead of the larger 6 lug that is in fact stock. Just a heads up. Hope that helps!
