Need new shocks! please help!

Well after crawling out from underneath my 94 pickup after giving a oil change i noticed that my driver side front shock just wasnt right. After all the top of it wasnt even mounted to anything! I've known i've needed shocks for the past few hundred miles but being a broke college kid living away from home there was very little i could do about it. Now that i am on spring break i'm hoping to get everything buttoned up before having to head back.

My question is what would be the best bang for your buck shock i can get. I do not do much off roading at this time do to school. I mostly use the truck driving back and forth from school which is in erie to back home near pittsburgh, and battling through the harsh erie weather. I would like to spend no more then $50/ shock. I originally wanted bilstein's but a little out of my price range, so what would the next best thing be for within my price range?

I would appreciate any help i could get.

I went with a set of Monroe Synsatracs (spelling) on my 86 pickup a few years ago and they worked very very well for the money. I think they were 25$ a shot from NAPA. Ride was soft but not "sponge-like". At that time I used that truck for DD and weekend runs to the hills and never had an issue. I know they are not the best offroad shock out there but they worked damn well for me.

Just put some Ranchos in my truck. They ride nice so far...it's only been a day hahaha. Only thing is I ordered from Summit Racing and I came up short a grommet...so I had to go searching for one...luckily there is a 4wheel parts by my house and they found a decent one in the scrap pile.
