I want to say it sound's like an ignition or timing problem. Did you have the power package put on by someone else? I'm guessing this is a 22r-e?

make sure your intake isn't leaking between the AFM and throttle body. even a small leak can cause it to miss. plus the intake ducts are known for cracking. also check and make sure you are getting good voltage to your TPS and AFM.

and welcome to yotatech!!

I had that same problem in the same year runner. The fuel injector wires were caroded. They looked ok on the outside but were rotten on the inside. Just an Idea!

Have you checked the fuel pressure? As for the timing, I would just set it to factory spec until you get the miss fire figured out. Does it idle smooth?

yes fuel pressure been checked

i took it to a shop and had it done and quite a few other things but for timing when i set it to factory it seems to re-time its self because it will idle smooth but be very gutless and a few hours later it will be idling at like 1500 rpm's if i advance it it will make a huge increase in power but will cut out and sputter and ping way more and if i retard the timing loss of power but run's a little better i find it very weird that it advance's its self i also installed a new fuel pump so i think i have the fuel system covered as far i know i really think its timing i just cant figure it out any more ideas?

you should just bump your old post next time. also, what vehicle/engine? check your timing, you may be off, or you may have skipped a tooth when installing the distributor. i'm not sure what year your truck is so i cant tell you timing spec, but search for timing or full service manual in the search bar. also, if you are running higher compression you might need to step up to better fuel. fouled spark plugs? maybe a worn plug wire arcing against the head?

Any trouble codes in the ECU? Was the timing set with the test jumper in place? If not, it'll be retarded about 7 degrees and be very gutless.
