Need help 1995 4runner Front differential sensor
Hey guys.I'm in some need of help and I'm trying to find why? This Sensor is not connected to something.
Pic one show sensor
Pic 2 Shows that it's not connected. if you look towards the right there's two wires hanging out.do they need to be Connected to something?
Note: Just bought the car it had a bad Power steering leak just got it fixed so that underneath the car is pretty dirty.
Thanks for the help.

I don't know the answer for fact, but it is more than likely the sensor to let you know if you're in 4 wheel. Either way, I'd look for the other end of it and reconnect them. Dangling wires is never a good thing.

So having gotten curious I went out and looked at my connections and found that the wire comes straight up behind the alternator and distributor and runs across the top front of the engine in the plastic wire protector right behind the upper portion of the timing cover and connects to the main harness on the passenger side of the engine. The wires, from what I can tell, are green with a white stripe, green, and the third being yellow. Of course wires tend to get discolored.
If this doesn't help, try this web site under technical articles and look for the electrical portion, it may help.

The wireharness that goes to the front diff runs down past the alternator and the distributor.
This part is for all,, If you manualy/permenently locked the front diff (IE. IFS years 86-88) you can just short those two wires on the upper harness.
This just makes the dash 4WD light come on.
In sequence the transfercase switch on manual activates the ADD which locks the front diff that turns on the dash light,, On auto trans the lever activates the switch for redirecting fluid pressure to the transfercase and sends a signal to ADD (locks diff and turns on dash light) and the ECU (Locks out OD)

so i have the same problem but the other end is broken and i have no idea where it goes. @VSIXFOURunner. did you ever get it to work? and if so where did you plug it in?

It plugs into the harness running down the drivers side of the engine (V6) behind the distributor, Along with the oil sensor plug.
Its not critical other then it lights the 4WD dash light.
If your sure that the front diff and ADD are working correctly you can just short the wires and it will always light the dash when you put the transfercase into 4WD.

other places i read seems like that if this is not hooked up the add wont work right. most people say it wont engage but mine in in 4x4 mode. also my mpg had dropped about 3 mpg since this has happend

Its not needed as I said all it does it light the dash 4X4 light, Its the last wire in the link of things.
If you are getting drag in the front its because ADD is having trouble disengaging, Suggest get the wire hooked up to the main harness first then, Its where I mentioned above that it hangs down the drivers side of the engine behind the distributor.
Then track down any other problems.
The ADD control is as follows, When you put the trans into 4WD the transfercase switch sends power out to the following.
Manual trans w/ADD, To ECU (which does nothing), To the 2 ADD solenoids on the passenger fender and the switch on the front diff.
Manual trans wo/ADD, To ECU (which does nothing) then to what would be ADD diff switch but is just shorted terminals and lights the cluster 4WD light.
Auto trans w/ADD, Redirects pressure from OD solenoid to transfercase, Signal to ECU turns on OD solenoid, Sends power to 2 ADD solenoids on passenger engine compartment and to the switch on the front of the diff that turns the 4WD dash light on when ADD engages the front diff.
The auto description above is for the A340H trans, Those with manual transfercases (A340F) can skip the ECU OD solenoid part.
I assume the wire from the A340F to the ECU has been nulled to allow OD during 4WD?
Those with 22RE manual and auto trans work similar but my knowledge on those transmission numbers are limited.
V64R's should be a A340F by the year mentioned.
