My 22RE needs a bath-suggestions?

I'm started to realize how spoiled I was with my old F-350 diesel-I could soap up the engine with degreaser at the DIY wash and go nuts. Now I'm worried that if I do that with my new (to me) '91 Pickup I won't be able to leave until the ignition dries out How do you guys give your engines a bath? The underhood area in my truck is filthy and there are a couple of oil leaks that I'd like to try to pinpoint by cleaning the gunk off and watching carefully. I used to use "Krud Kutter" a lot on my old truck and it worked pretty well. I don't know what's in it but its non-toxic and doesn't seem to harm paint or rubber, but it does a hell of a job cutting oil and grease. The plan is to soap the engine compartment/drivetrain with the stuff really good, let it soak in for 15-20 minutes, and then rinse. Any tips for doing this so that I don't end up stranded?

does your distributor have the wire cover on it? If so just hit it quickly and don't concentrate on that area, if it does not just don't hit that area directly with the pressure washer. It's always good to pressure wash it with the engine running too and you can avoid areas that you might hit if the idle changes on the truck. Be conscious on the exhaust manifold though as you'd be hitting it with relatively cold water, you don't want to crack it.

Don't believe me, I clean (not detail) this at least once a year and have had no problems getting out of the car wash.

I was wondering that too one day...always enjoyed our debates and splitting hairs.

I PM'd 92toy who lives right by him and he say's he's still around (not on YT) and doing his thing. I don't know why he stopped all of a sudden.
