try pulling the steering wheel down a little bit as you turn the key, it might unlock the ignition

same thing happens to me all the time. im guessing youve already tried turning the wheel back and forth while you turn the key. if that doesnt work try pulling the key in and out just slightly while turning it. that seems to work for me.

take a pencil and scribble on the grooves of the key, do this several times and insert and remove the key...the graphite works like a lubricant.......works on zippers too (Thanks Mom!).

also, my key would always work in my doors but was worn down so much that I sometimes had to jiggle it in the ignition to get the truck to start....until that fateful day at the gas station when it wouldn't do it anymore.....called my friends at the fire station and the idiots helped me but responded an engine a rescue and an ambulance and we pushed my truck away from the pumps and picked it up (yes we did) a little at a time to angle it to a parking spot since I couldn't turn the wheel....meanwhile my wife brought my other key.........embarrassing.

Great Tip!!

mine does it too, i went and got a few spares made at the hardware store and they were a lil sticky also....so, went to the dealership with my title/VIN and they cut me a key for, get this, $3.22!!....the ignition is smooth as silk now!!

now i got spare keys hidden all over the place!!

I think this happens every once in a while to every vehicle that has the lock cylinder in the steering column .

I don`t even think anymore just give the steering wheel a few turns in both directions that has worked every time

If you guys pop out the lock tumbler from one of the doors (i usually tear the passenger door up so u can still use your drivers door, when u go to the lock shop) it will have the key code on it and you can get brand new keys made at any good key shop. these keys will work like, well i wont put that in the family friendly forum.

thats not what we were talking about though. were were discussing worn keys not working because of ware or because of inaccurate copies of copies of copies. their 2 different possible causes for this problem

Mines the complete opposite.
I can start my truck with nearly anything that fits in the ignition.
I've started my truck with a PENNY before...
