My two cents...I wouldnt pay that much...I live in GA and I see toyotas come with swap engines with ASE certified techs and stuff come around 6 grand. If you can get it for $2500 they may not be too bad

I think you made a good decision regarding that pickup. I personally would have only paid that price if the truck was in pristine condition. 5K is way too much for that condition as I would have only paid 1500 max. When my 1990 4runner was bought for me in high school, We paid 3K which at the time was a bit high but the body, interior & mechanics worked fine until the HG + motor swap happened. Otherwise, keep looking, pickups & 4runners of that same year are great to own.

I just bought a 1990 Toyota pick up with the 3.0 in it for $750. My neighbor had it sitting in the garage for 15 years. The body and motor only has 28k on it. I'm at a loss where to even start looking at things. I know the tires and shocks are shot. The motor worries me because it was sitting so long. Also a lot of the emissions stuff I don't need on it anymore. Anything below 1996 does not need to be emissions tested. If anyone has any advice it would be greatly appreciated.

Red face

I start on the ground and work my way up.

Just depends where it was nice dry climate or super damp

Maybe some Marvel mystery oil in the cylinders for a few days.

Change all the fluids, they junk, even the brake fluid. Walk the engine over with fresh oil using a wrench after taking out all the spark plugs and putting in a good shot of thin oil. In fact I would be tempted to pull the oil sending switch and try pumping thin lubricating oil down the pipes to loosen everything up and let is soak for a day.

Thank you. I will try that. I put marves down in the cylinders already but I will try the rest of what you said before turning it over.
