there are a few companys that make neoprine covers, the best one is http://www.wetokole.com, but they are very expensive. something else that you could do if you are on a budget is to make some custom trash bag seat covers
as for replacing the tailgate with a cargo net, i accualy thought about that yesterday, but then i realized that if you did do that, then you would have to find a new place to attach the tag. but, it would probaly really help with gas milage, becaulse that tailgate is very heavy
i thought about a third row seat, and made a thread a little while ago, here it is

hey, there's this site http://www.covercraft.com/ that has all kinds of protective covers for all kinds of stuff on your truck. They also make (I think) a tailgate net called the "pro net", you can search online for pro net and check it out. I'm getting one of those, just wish I could find the bed end caps like the one's in this pic for my 85. http://www.carcoverusa.com/Pro-Net-T...FUcHRQodhEZfdw

Also, if it's the weight of the tailgate that you are concerned with and you don't have a hardtop anyway, alot of guys run a pickup tailgate or gut all the window components. Won't do much for aerodynamics though.
